What are the general treatment and dietary methods for hypertension?

Hypertension is a clinical syndrome characterized by increased systemic arterial pressure. Increased arterial pressure can lead to damage to target organs such as the heart, kidneys, brain, and blood vessels, and is accompanied by systemic metabolic changes. So how should high blood pressure be treated? , what should we pay attention to in diet?

Treatments for high blood pressure

1. Western medicine treatment

Drugs for the treatment of hypertension include diuretics, calcium channel blockers, angiotensin II receptor blockers, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, etc. Most patients can use beta-blockers. The following points should be noted when using the drug: first, the dose should be started from a small amount and then gradually increased; second, if the patient has adverse reactions, the drug should be stopped immediately; third, if the patient's condition is more serious, two antihypertensive drugs can be used in combination for treatment.

2. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine generally treats hypertension based on syndrome differentiation and prescription. Those with hyperactivity of liver fire can be treated with Zhengan Xifeng or Lingyangjiao Decoction; those with yin deficiency and hyperactivity of yang can be treated with Tianma Gou Teng Yin with modifications; those with excessive phlegm and dampness can be treated with Wen Dan Tang or Banxia Baizhu Tianma Tang with modifications; those with both yin and yang deficiency can be treated with Jinkui Shenqi Pills combined with Erxian Decoction with modifications.

3Acupuncture treatment

Body acupuncture therapy: Fengchi, Taichong, Quchi and Hegu. For those who are irritable and insomniac, add Shenmen; for those who have severe headache and red and swollen eyes, add Taiyang point.

Auricular acupuncture therapy: The acupoints are mainly located in the heart, liver area, brain points and antihypertensive points. For those suffering from insomnia and dreaminess, Shenmen and gallbladder area are added; for those with palpitations, heart points are added; for those with severe headaches and dizziness, the ear tips are added; and for those with numbness in the limbs, the corresponding acupoints in the ear area and limbs are added.

Moxibustion therapy: Use moxa sticks to directly moxibustion Zusanli and Juegu or use ginger to moxibustion. Twice a week, treat 1 acupoint (double) each time, 1-3 times for each acupoint, 10 days as a course of treatment.

Dietary considerations for high blood pressure

1. Drink more Jianling Decoction, Pinggan Huoluo Decoction, Chuanxiong Zexie Decoction, Qiwei Huoxue Decoction, etc.;

2. Limit sodium salt intake, and control the daily salt intake per person to less than 6g;

3. Eat more vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins and less foods high in fat.
