When can cerebral palsy be detected in children? What are the causes of cerebral palsy?

Studies have found that the brain tissue in early infancy is in the most vigorous period of growth and development, and the brain has strong plasticity and compensatory ability. If proper stimulation is given at an early stage, it will be of great help to the development of the brain. So when can cerebral palsy in children be discovered?

When can cerebral palsy be detected in children?

1. It is impossible to determine whether the child has cerebral palsy during pregnancy. Fetal B-ultrasound, amniocentesis, and some genetic metabolic disease screening can help understand whether fetal brain development is affected. But not all brain development disorders manifest as cerebral palsy.

2. Within one month after birth, the child's eyes, crying, and appearance of the head and facial features can reflect the state of brain function to a certain extent. However, since the child's motor function has not yet been fully manifested, it is difficult to determine whether there is a movement disorder. 1 to 3 months after birth, as the child's motor skills develop, an experienced doctor can observe whether the child has movement disorders from aspects such as posture and muscle tone. At this time, combined with relevant laboratory tests and detailed motor assessments, it can be determined whether the child has cerebral palsy.

3. If fetal abnormalities are found in early pregnancy, the pregnancy should be terminated as soon as possible. To prevent the birth of babies with congenital abnormalities, modern medical technology can perform prenatal diagnosis in early pregnancy (7-9 weeks). If obvious abnormalities are found in the fetus early, artificial abortion can be performed as soon as possible.

The causes of cerebral palsy in children are as follows:

1. Hypoxia and asphyxia, fetal hypoxia and asphyxia in the mother's womb, neonatal hypoxia and asphyxia during delivery, respiratory distress syndrome, etc.;

Second, if the fetus is dysplastic, has intrauterine infection, slow intrauterine growth, or has congenital malformations, and the newborn weighs less than 2,500 grams, the possibility of cerebral palsy is greatly increased;

3. Brain injury, including brain injury to the baby during delivery, craniocerebral injury or brain infection in the newborn, and cerebrovascular accident;

Fourth, it is caused by certain genetic diseases and neonatal kernicterus; fifth, it is caused by the pregnant woman herself, including abdominal trauma, threatened abortion, prenatal hemorrhage, pregnancy toxemia and placental reasons, as well as certain chronic diseases of the pregnant woman, such as hypertension, hepatitis, diabetes, drug abuse, drug overdose, etc.
