1: What is thalassemia?

1: Thalassemia, also known as sea anemia, is a group of hereditary diseases and the most common incomplete dominant chronic hemolytic anemia in the population. The pathogenesis is that the globin chains that synthesize hemoglobin are reduced or missing, resulting in abnormal hemoglobin structure. Red blood cells containing abnormal hemoglobin have reduced deformability and shortened lifespan. They can be destroyed prematurely by the liver, spleen, etc. of the human body, leading to anemia and even developmental abnormalities. This disease is medically known as hemolytic anemia.

2: Thalassemia is a preventable but difficult to treat genetic disease. If you can clearly understand your genetic background before marriage and do a good job of thalassemia screening and diagnosis before birth, you can effectively minimize the chances of the next generation suffering from severe thalassemia.

2: Dietary treatment for thalassemia

1: Oolong Jujube Soup: Take 50g jujube, 20g longan meat, 15g Amomum villosum, and 1 black-bone chicken. Add appropriate amount of water, add oil and salt to taste, simmer for 2 hours, eat the meat and drink the soup.

2: Cordyceps chicken: Use cordyceps, 30 grams each of coix seed, 10 grams of angelica, and 1 black-bone chicken. Add appropriate amount of water, add oil and salt to taste, simmer for 2 hours, eat the meat and drink the soup.

3: For the donkey-hide gelatin and jujube porridge, take 50 grams of glutinous rice, 10 grams of donkey-hide gelatin, 8 jujubes, and an appropriate amount of white sugar. Crush the donkey-hide gelatin; cook the washed glutinous rice and jujube into porridge, add the donkey-hide gelatin and white sugar when it is almost cooked, and cook for a while.

4: To stew lean duck with cordyceps, use 6 cordyceps and 1 lean duck. Remove the feathers and internal organs of the duck, wash and cut into pieces, put into a casserole, add Cordyceps sinensis and seasonings such as salt, onion, ginger, etc., add appropriate amount of water and stew. Boil over high heat first, then simmer over low heat until cooked.

5: Flavored mutton bone porridge: take 750 grams of mutton bones, 50 grams of polished rice, 20 grams of astragalus, and 7 dates. Wash and crush the sheep bones, put them into a casserole together with astragalus and jujube, boil with appropriate amount of water, use the soup instead of water and cook it with washed rice into porridge. When the porridge is almost cooked, add appropriate amount of ginger, scallion and salt, stir well, and cook for a while. It is recommended to take it warm on an empty stomach, and one course of treatment is 15 days.

3: Mild thalassemia does not require special treatment

Thalassemia intermedia and major should be treated with one or more of the following methods. Blood transfusion and iron chelation therapy are still one of the important treatment methods.
