What to do if you have drool rash? Try these methods

Drool rash is a skin disease that makes people feel very uncomfortable, especially babies. Drool rash is actually a type of dermatitis, which can be prevented by proper cleaning and maintenance.

Drool rash is actually irritant contact dermatitis. The acute phase of drool rash is caused by irritants penetrating the skin barrier, causing mild damage to the epidermal keratinocytes, thereby stimulating the release of inflammatory mediators, activating T cells and producing cytotoxic effects. The chronic stage of drooling rash is mainly due to the destruction of the barrier function of the stratum corneum: damage to the stratum corneum lipids that mediate the barrier function reduces the adhesion of keratinocytes, causes desquamation, and increases transepidermal water loss; (water loss) triggers the reconstruction of the skin barrier function: promotes lipid synthesis, keratinocyte proliferation, and produces transient hyperkeratosis, making the skin appear rough and thickened.

4 Steps to Prevent and Treat Drool Rash

1. Saliva doesn’t stay for long. Once you see your baby drooling, you can take out a soft gauze towel and gently wipe it off to keep the lips and face clean.

2. Apply moisturizing lotion. To prevent the skin from becoming too dry and itchy, parents can apply a proper amount of lotion around the baby's lips and face to prevent saliva from directly contacting the skin.

3. Cut your nails short. Babies are not like adults who can endure the itching feeling and not scratch the rash. Often when they discover it, wounds have already been scratched. Therefore, parents can help babies cut their nails short so that when they scratch, the damage to the skin will be less.

4. Avoid too much intimate contact. Under close contact, the adult's saliva will remain on the baby's face, which will cause burden to the baby's skin over time, so just kiss the baby occasionally.
