Will I get anorexia if I stay hungry for a long time? Causes of Anorexia

Under the influence of some negative factors, some people don’t want to eat after being hungry for a long time, and finally wonder if they are suffering from anorexia. This idea is pure nonsense. You will not suffer from anorexia even if you are hungry for a long time.

Anorexia generally refers to anorexia nervosa , or “AN” in Western medical theory. This disease refers to a psychological disorder in which the patient deliberately makes his or her weight significantly lower than the normal standard through dieting and other means. Therefore, this disease is a mental or psychological disease. Its clinical manifestations are that patients are afraid of weight gain, blindly pursue weight loss, and suffer from severe weight loss, accompanied by symptoms such as malnutrition, low metabolic levels, and endocrine disorders.

There is no specific cause of anorexia , and it is mostly related to the patient's psychology. For example, inferiority complex, demanding perfection, being conservative and old-fashioned, worrying too much, being introverted and reserved, being competitive, being self-centered, being independent and not sociable, being dreamy and unrealistic, etc. In addition, excessive stress, tense interpersonal relationships, picky eating, and partial eating may also cause anorexia.

In fact, anorexia patients are not really obsessed with food plans , but endure hunger in order to achieve their so-called weight loss goals. In fact, the desire to eat always exists. Patients will use any means to lose weight, such as dieting, taking diet pills and laxatives, excessive physical exercise, vomiting after eating and other pathological methods.

Because patients are in a state of not eating for a long time, they will suffer from severe malnutrition , which will lead to abnormal functions of various systems and tissues in the body. Common symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, shortness of breath, chest tightness, chills, etc. The severity of symptoms increases with the duration of malnutrition.

Note:

Anorexia is mostly caused by mental or psychological disorders. Therefore, when treating such patients, while forcing them to eat, they must also be psychologically persuaded to alleviate their psychological barriers and enable them to resume normal eating.
