Heel pain Chinese medicine foot bath

Heel pain Chinese medicine foot bath

There are many reasons for heel pain. Some people suffer from bone spurs, while others suffer from inflammation. No matter what kind of heel pain it is, in addition to normal treatment, it can also be slowly adjusted through traditional Chinese medicine methods. The methods of TCM for treating heel pain include external application, foot bath with medicinal herbs, etc. Choose the method that suits you and use it consistently for a long time to achieve the effect of fundamental treatment.

Causes of Heel Pain

1. Calcaneus spur. Heel pain in the elderly is often related to bone spurs. There are bone spurs of varying sizes at the calcaneal tuberosity. The raised bone spurs cause friction and strain on local tissues, which can cause aseptic inflammation. However, the degree of heel pain is related to the severity of the local inflammatory reaction and has no direct relationship with the size of the bone spurs.

2. Atrophy of the plantar fat pad. When the fat pad shrinks, the heel's ability to cushion shock and prevent friction will be weakened, making the heel more susceptible to injury and pain.

3. Strain of the plantar fascia of the foot. Some people who walk for too long and carry too much weight may suffer from strain of the plantar fascia, resulting in local aseptic inflammation and pain symptoms, which are concentrated at the starting point of the plantar fascia at the calcaneal tuberosity.

Chinese medicine foot bath recipe to relieve heel pain

1. Take some Chuanxiong, white mustard seeds and Angelica dahurica in a ratio of 1:1:3, grind the prepared herbs into fine powder, add appropriate amount of vinegar and stir into a paste. Take an appropriate amount of the prepared medicine paste and apply it to the affected area, then wrap it with a pain-relieving patch and change the medicine every three days. This prescription has a good effect in reducing swelling and relieving pain for heel pain caused by bone hyperplasia.

2. Frankincense (10g), myrrh (10g), dragon's blood (10g), angelica dahurica (15g), artemisia annua (20g), radix polygoni aviculare (30g), rhizoma angustifoliae (30g), and geranium (30g). Put the above medicinal materials into the medicine pot, add water and boil, then simmer on low heat for 10 minutes. Add the medicinal liquid to the foot bath and soak your feet for 20 to 30 minutes, twice a day. One dose of medicine can be decocted twice, and seven to ten days is a course of treatment.

3. When soaking your feet in hot water, add some rice vinegar to the foot bath. Soak for half an hour each time, once a day. A course of treatment is fifteen to twenty days.

TCM treatment for heel pain

1. A very simple and convenient method is to add appropriate amount of vinegar to the residue of decocted Chinese medicine every day, put it in a gauze bag, adjust the temperature to a suitable level, and apply hot compress on the heel for 15 to 20 minutes at a time.

2. Take appropriate amounts of Chuancaowu, Shenjincao, and Tougucao (please ask your doctor to prescribe a prescription for external application based on your own situation), add appropriate amounts of vinegar, and hot water (not too hot). Soak your feet every day for 15 to 20 minutes. One dose of medicine can be used for 3 to 5 days. After soaking your feet, apply ointment or hand cream to your heels and then massage. Or you can place a suitable round stick under your feet and roll it back and forth, which is also a form of massage.

3. Use heel pads. Mark the location of the pain point on a slightly thicker insole, hollow it out, and place a medicine bag in the empty space. You can use Clematis chinensis and Angelica dahurica, grind them into powder in a 1:1 ratio to make the medicine bag. It can also be used without the medicine bag.

4. If the pain is severe and seriously affects walking, local blockade treatment can be used.
