How rabies is transmitted

When it comes to dogs, people all know that they are our most loyal friends, but when it comes to rabies, people try to avoid them as much as possible. When it comes to rabies, most people think that it is a disease brought to humans by dogs. In fact, rabies is a zoonotic infectious disease, but it is more common in dogs. Rabies is an acute infectious disease that is transmitted between humans and animals, commonly known as "mad dog disease". Its main symptoms include fear of water, fear of wind, pharyngeal muscle spasm, progressive paralysis, etc. Among these symptoms, hydrophobia is the most prominent, so it is also called hydrophobia.

There are three main ways rabies is transmitted:

1. People are infected by being bitten or scratched by dogs or other animals, or by being licked by their mucous membranes. The rabies virus invades the nerves through wounds and mucous membranes and causes disease. This is the main mode of transmission.

2. Infection occurs when hands are accidentally pricked during slaughtering or skinning.

3. Infection through the digestive tract. Animals that died of rabies are buried underground and frozen in the winter. They are then dug out by wild dogs or other animals, which eat their meat and infect them with rabies. The incubation period of rabies is not fixed, most cases are within 3 months, and once the disease occurs, the patient will die within a few days. Rabies is so terrible, so we must do a good job of prevention!

The prevention of rabies must first start from the source. Most people around us like to keep dogs and have close contact with dogs. However, dogs have great mobility, and they bite people in defense or attack. Therefore, dogs have become a major factor in the spread of rabies. Therefore, vaccinating dogs is an important part of preventing rabies.

Secondly, after being bitten by a dog or other animal, you must properly treat the wound: treat the wound in time and wash the bite area with soapy water; inject rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin; control and prevent dangerous groups of people.

It is worth mentioning here that not all dog bites will cause rabies. Animals that have harmed humans should be isolated and observed. If they do not become ill within ten days, they are healthy animals and will not transmit rabies.
