How to treat fungal otitis media? Check and treat in time

Fungal otitis media can cause pus discharge from the ears. If you suffer from fungal otitis media, do not take medication blindly, and do not use antibiotics indiscriminately. You should do a detailed examination, and you can also use diet therapy and drink more chrysanthemum tea, which has a good effect in clearing away heat and detoxifying.

1. How to treat fungal otitis media

Otitis media is a very common disease. When pus appears in the ear, many people often take it for granted that they have purulent otitis media. Otolaryngologists remind patients not to have preconceived ideas about the disease. In fact, if the patient has a fungal infection in the ear canal, the same symptoms of pus discharge will occur. The two have different treatments. If they are reversed, it will only aggravate the condition.

Otitis media is caused by bacterial infection, so it is generally treated with antibiotics, such as ofloxacin ear drops. However, if it is a fungal infection, antibiotics must not be used, because antibiotics have no effect on fungi. On the contrary, they will only suppress other pathogenic bacteria, making the environment of the ear canal more suitable for the growth of fungi and further worsening the condition.

Therefore, patients should first undergo a check-up. Once a fungal infection is detected, the most commonly used ear drops in clinical practice include iodine glycerin, salicylic acid alcohol, or Daktarin ointment, which should be used continuously for about two weeks.
