What foods are taboo for gallstones?

There are many dietary taboos for patients with gallstones. They cannot eat foods with too high cholesterol, especially obese people should pay more attention. At the same time, they should eat less hormone foods and medicines. They cannot overeat or eat too much, as these may aggravate the symptoms.

1. People with gallstones should eat more ginger and less sugar ; ginger can promote cholesterol metabolism, so patients with gallstones can eat it often. For obese patients, the intake of sugar and high-sugar foods should be limited appropriately to help reduce fat synthesis.

2. People with gallstones should not eat or eat as little hormonal food and medicine as possible , especially female patients with gallstones. Stones are more common in women during menopause. Since high estrogen levels can reduce the contraction function of the gallbladder and hinder the excretion of bile, you should eat less hormone foods and drugs, and do not use estrogen products blindly.

3. Foods that people with gallstones should avoid are mainly foods with high cholesterol , such as animal hearts, livers, brains, intestines, egg yolks, preserved eggs, fish roe, and chocolate. Patients with gallstones should not eat high-fat foods, such as fatty meat, lard, fried foods, and oily pastries, because too much fat causes the gallbladder to contract and lead to pain.

4. Patients with gallstones should avoid overeating and drinking , because overeating will promote the secretion of large amounts of bile, and the strong contraction of the gallbladder will cause gallbladder inflammation, local colic, etc. Patients with gallstones should not eat spicy condiments such as chili pepper and pepper. Tobacco, alcohol and coffee are also taboos, because these irritating foods will cause excessive stomach acid, violent contraction of the gallbladder, resulting in spasm of the bile duct sphincter and difficulty in bile excretion, which can easily induce biliary colic.

5. Note that since the formation of gallstones is related to excessively high cholesterol levels in the body, the intake of animal offal, fish roe, eggs, fatty meat, etc. should be strictly controlled and restricted. Other foods that patients with gallstones cannot eat or should eat as little as possible include bacon, as eating too much bacon can easily lead to gallstones.
