Causes and treatments of keratitis

Keratitis is an eye disease with a high incidence rate in daily life, and everyone’s life will be affected to a certain extent when it occurs. As people's understanding of keratitis gradually deepens, they begin to pay more and more attention to it. By paying attention to the causes of keratitis, you can effectively avoid various bad behaviors that cause keratitis, thereby preventing and avoiding keratitis.

1. Causes of keratitis

(I) Trauma and infection

It is the most common cause of keratitis. When the corneal epithelium is damaged by mechanical, physical and chemical factors, bacteria, viruses and fungi take the opportunity to enter and cause infection. The invading pathogenic microorganisms can come from external injuries or from various pathogens hidden in the eyelids or conjunctival sacs. Chronic dacryocystitis, in particular, is a risk factor for corneal infection.

2. Systemic diseases

It is an internal factor. For example, allergic keratitis caused by tuberculosis, rheumatism, syphilis, etc. Systemic malnutrition, especially keratomelia caused by vitamin A deficiency in infants and young children, and neuroparalytic keratitis caused by trigeminal nerve paralysis. In addition, there are autoimmune diseases such as Mooren's ulcer whose causes are unclear.

(iii) Influence of diseases of tissues adjacent to the cornea. For example, acute conjunctivitis can cause superficial punctate keratitis, scleritis can lead to sclerosing keratitis, and uveitis can also cause keratitis. When eyelid defect is combined with incomplete closure of palpebral fissure, exposure keratitis may occur.

2. What are the symptoms of keratitis?

1. Primary infection

Primary infection only occurs in serum antibody-negative patients, and symptoms of keratitis are more common in children. Infants under 6 months old can obtain anti-herpes simplex virus antibodies from their mothers through the placenta. Infection by these factors is rare, and the antibodies gradually disappear. Children aged 1 to 3 are most susceptible to infection, with 60% infected by the age of 5 and over 90% infected by the age of 15.

2. Tuberculosis

It often occurs in one eye and is also the main symptom of keratitis. The symptoms of stromal keratitis are infiltration of the middle and posterior layers of the corneal stroma. Initially, it is close to the corneal edge and then gradually develops toward the center of the cornea. Infiltrative opacities are often nodular or lumpy. The number is uncertain and they are mostly confined to a certain area, unlike the widespread spread of syphilis. At the same time as the inflammatory infiltration, new blood vessels appear and their distribution is also regional, increasing from a few to many, and coiling in a spherical shape around the nodular opacities.

3. Treatment of keratitis

For patients with keratitis, it is recommended to take oral Huanglian Shangqing tablets, loratadine hydrochloride capsules, and topical chloramphenicol eye drops, etc., which are very effective. Patients should pay attention to eye protection at ordinary times, pay attention to eye hygiene, not eat spicy food, and not smoke or drink alcohol.

Keratitis is generally caused by bacterial infection, viral infection, mycoplasma infection and other factors. It can be treated with enoxacin eye drops, chloramphenicol eye drops, tobramycin dexamethasone eye drops, and oral aspirin tablets, which have good treatment effects and can effectively cure the disease.

Keratitis should be treated promptly. Rinse the eyes as much as possible. Washing with saline is very effective. For bacterial infections, antibiotics should be used, such as penicillin, erythromycin, etc. Can effectively treat and

Relieve keratitis.
