How is the ovulation period calculated?

How is the ovulation period calculated?

Understanding the ovulation period is not only to better help women and increase the chances of fertility, but it is also a contraceptive method chosen by some women. The ovulation period can be calculated through the cervical mucus method or the basal body temperature test method.

1: Aquino Law

The Aquino method is also known as the mathematical formula method, which means that the ovulation day is 14 to 15 days forward from the last day of the menstrual cycle (that is, the first day of the next menstruation). If the next menstrual period is on the Nth day, then the ovulation day this time is the N-14th day.

Although the length of the menstrual cycle varies from person to person, and even the length of each cycle for the same person is not exactly the same, the luteal phase lasts for most people at 14 days, which is constant. Changes in the menstrual cycle are caused by differences in the follicular phase. So we can use mathematical formulas to simply predict the ovulation day.

2: Cervical mucus method

Cervical mucus appears throughout the menstrual cycle and has subtle cyclical changes. We know that the endometrial glandular cells of the cervix can secrete mucus, and the amount of mucus secreted and its chemical and physical properties have obvious periodic changes.

Just after menstruation, the amount of mucus secretion gradually increases and becomes thinner and transparent, similar to egg white, reaching its peak before ovulation. It can also be said that the probability of ovulation is highest on the day with the most mucus.

At this time, insert your fingers deep into the vagina and pick up some of the mucus flowing from the cervix. You can pull the mucus into thin threads as long as 10 cm without breaking. After ovulation, under the action of progesterone, the secretion of mucus is significantly reduced, it becomes thick and turbid, has poor ductility, and is easily broken when drawn. Understand the changing pattern of mucus. If you observe and record the state of mucus every night, you can easily find your ovulation day.

3: Basal body temperature method

The so-called basal body temperature refers to the body temperature when you wake up in the morning, your body remains quiet and your mood is calm. During the menstrual cycle, basal body temperature changes cyclically. The basal body temperature is lower after menstruation and during the follicular phase. After ovulation, the corpus luteum is formed in the ovary, and the progesterone produced acts on the hypothalamic temperature regulation center, causing the body temperature to rise by 0.3-0.5℃, which lasts until 1-2 days before menstruation or the first day of menstruation, when the body temperature returns to its original level.

Since human body temperature can change due to a number of reasons, when measuring it, you must have a normal life routine, sleep for more than 6 hours a day, and the measurement time should be roughly the same every day.
