How old is it until the follicle ruptures? Professional doctors are here to answer!

The female body usually grows from follicle to follicle and then releases the follicle. This is a complex physiological process. Having normal and mature follicles is the basic prerequisite for female pregnancy. It is worth mentioning that the follicle will rupture when it grows to a certain stage, and if the follicle ruptures, it will not ovulate normally. So how big does the follicle have to be before it ruptures?

1. How old is the follicle when it will rupture?

Under normal circumstances, the development of follicles to 1.8-2.5cm is within the normal range. The follicles disappear after growing to a certain size, which is medically called the luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome: it refers to a group of syndromes in which the menstrual cycle is regular and ovulation is assumed, but the follicles do not rupture in the middle of the menstrual period and there is no ovulation. It is one of the important causes of infertility. In this case, it is recommended to go to an authoritative and regular hospital specializing in the treatment of infertility to check and clarify the cause. You can go to the doctor for a detailed examination, clarify the specific cause, and provide targeted treatment.

2. The normal size of a mature follicle is 18-25mm. If it is lower or larger than this standard, ovulation will not occur normally. It is okay to have one follicle now, but ovulation does not necessarily occur. You can continue to monitor it. How big does a follicle need to be when it matures? Under normal circumstances, the follicle grows at a rate of 0.2CM per day. Ultrasound examination until ovulation can clarify the growth and development of the follicle, as well as whether ovulation has occurred. If you do not ovulate or have ovulation disorders, you need to check the cause in time, which may be directly related to the cause of irregular menstruation.

3. When a newborn is born, there are about 2 million follicles in the ovaries. Only 300,000 remain near puberty. A batch of follicles develop every month during the reproductive period, of which generally only one dominant follicle can reach full maturity and release an egg. Generally, 400-500 follicles mature and ovulate in a woman's lifetime. Follicle rupture refers to ovulation, which is the process by which the egg cell and the surrounding cumulus granules are discharged.

4. During the normal ovulation process, a dominant follicle in the ovary develops and matures, ruptures in the middle of the menstrual cycle, discharges the egg, and forms a corpus luteum at the same time. A large amount of estrogen is secreted before ovulation, and a large amount of progesterone is secreted after ovulation.

Under the action of estrogen and progesterone, the endometrium changes from the proliferative phase to the secretory phase; the cervical mucus changes from clear and transparent to thick and turbid; and the basal body temperature shows a biphasic characteristic.
