What should I do if my lumbar spine compresses my nerves?

Lumbar nerve compression is relatively common in clinical practice, which is mainly caused by lumbar disc herniation. The symptoms of lumbar nerve compression are quite obvious. In addition to conventional treatment, patients should mainly rest and try some conservative treatments during the recuperation period.

1. Bed rest: In the acute phase, rest on a hard bed for 2 to 4 weeks to reduce the stimulation of the lesion to the nerves and reactive edema. The best position is supine with hip and knee flexed, or side-lying to relieve pain.

2. Drug treatment (it is recommended to be taken under the guidance of a doctor): including the use of sedatives, antipyretics, analgesics, hormones, neurotrophic drugs, microvascular dilators, etc.

3. Traction therapy: Pelvic traction can increase the width of the intervertebral space, reduce the intra-disc pressure, retract the protruding disc, and reduce stimulation and compression on the nerve roots. It needs to be performed under the guidance of a professional doctor. It is recommended to continue traction for a course of treatment, about 12-15 days. Generally, the symptoms can be alleviated after 4-6 days.

4. Physical therapy: After excluding tuberculous spondylitis, tumors and other lesions, physical therapy can be used. Commonly used methods include heat therapy, ultrashort wave, low and medium frequency electrotherapy, etc.

5. Massage therapy: to relieve muscle tension and spasm, keep your waist warm and avoid cold as much as possible. Wear a waist belt (waist belt) during the day to strengthen the protection of the waist and back, which is also beneficial to the recovery of lumbar spondylosis.

6. Acupuncture treatment: The treatment principle is the same as physical therapy and massage therapy;

7. Blockade therapy: one is intraspinal blockade, and the other is nerve root blockade. The injected drugs are mainly adrenal glucocorticoids plus local anesthesia. Under the action of hormones, they can reduce and eliminate aseptic inflammation and edema of the nerve roots. Anesthetic drugs can relieve pain and anesthetize the nerves to reduce their sensitivity.
