What are the effects of tanshinone that you don’t know?

Tanshinone is mainly extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza. Tanshinone has very good effects on the human body. It can effectively carry out antibacterial and antibacterial activities and is generally used for wound healing and anti-inflammatory effects. Tanshinone also contains anti-androgen effects, which can effectively reduce the production of cortex and is used to treat acne with very good results.

Pharmacological Action

1. In vitro antibacterial effect experiments showed that tanshinone had a stronger antibacterial effect on Staphylococcus aureus than berberine , and also had an inhibitory effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37RV strain (the minimum inhibitory concentration could reach below 1.5 mg/ml) and two types of trichophyton.

2. Anti-inflammatory effect: Tanshinone has a significant anti-inflammatory effect when administered intragastrically to rats.

In the first phase of inflammation model, it has a significant inhibitory effect on the increase in capillary permeability caused by histamine; it has an inhibitory effect on acute joint swelling caused by egg white, carrageenan and dextran; and it has an inhibitory effect on exudative formaldehyde peritonitis. In the second stage of inflammation model, it has a significant inhibitory effect on the leukocyte migration of mice caused by gelatin; it also has a significant inhibitory effect on subacute formaldehyde-induced joint swelling. For the third stage inflammation model, the cotton ball granuloma test had no inhibitory effect (i.e. no effect in the chronic stage). Tanshinone can reduce the levels of PGF2α and PGE in the blood of rats, which may be related to the anti-inflammatory mechanism of tanshinone.

3. Anticoagulant effect Tanshinone has an anticoagulant effect. The effect is stronger than protocatechualdehyde.

4. Other effects: Tanshinone can improve the survival rate or prolong the survival time of mice under low-pressure hypoxia.

Tanshinone has anti-androgen effects, reduces sebum production, has anti-Propionibacterium acnes effects, reduces inflammation exacerbated by bacterial metabolism, and can be used to treat acne. Tanshinone has an antipyretic effect on rabbits with fever caused by typhoid vaccine, and experiments on mice have shown that tanshinone has a milder estrogenic activity that acts through the ovaries. 5. In vivo process observation: after intraduodenal administration, tanshinone enters the liver and is excreted through bile. The results show that trace amounts of tanshinone can be detected in the bile of rats within 1 hour after intraduodenal administration, and the peak of excretion is about 3 hours after administration. Tanshinone with different structures has different excretion rates in the liver.
