What are the prescriptions for Qi stagnation and blood stasis?

Traditional Chinese medicine has many methods for treating qi stagnation and blood stasis. Chinese medicine can be used to slowly regulate the patient's qi and blood to make them flow smoothly, thereby improving symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, abdominal distension and pain caused by qi stagnation and blood stasis. So what are the prescriptions for treating Qi stagnation and blood stasis? Let’s find out below. At the same time, patients with qi stagnation and blood stasis are advised to maintain a happy mood in daily life and participate in more appropriate physical exercise to improve the blood stasis state.

Qi stagnation and blood stasis are mostly caused by emotional injury, depression, and Qi blockage, which leads to blood stasis. The liver is responsible for regulating qi and storing blood. The regulating function of liver qi plays a key role in regulating qi. Therefore, qi stagnation and blood stasis are often closely related to liver failure to regulate qi. Clinically, common symptoms include fullness and pain in the chest and flanks, mass accumulation, and accumulation of symptoms. The lungs control qi, regulate the body's qi, and assist the heart in transporting blood. If pathogens block the lung qi and the functions of ascending and descending are impaired, over time it can lead to qi stagnation and blood stasis in the heart and lungs, resulting in symptoms such as cough, asthma, palpitations, chest pain, and blue lips and tongue.

Qi stagnation and blood stasis (syndrome) treatment:

1. Main symptoms: stabbing pain that is resistant to pressure, persistent pain, dull or dark complexion.

2. Side symptoms: chest and flank distension, wandering pain, irritability or depression; or delirium, or madness; or hard lumps under the flanks; or bluish lips, nails, and skin; or thirst but wanting to spit out water instead of swallowing it; or purple spots on the skin, or silky blood streaks on the skin, or exposed blue veins in the abdomen, or swollen and painful blue veins in the lower limbs; or black stools like tar; or dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, and persistent lochia, with dark purple blood mixed with blood clots.

3. Tongue and pulse: The tongue is dark purple or has ecchymosis, the pulse is thin and wiry or deep and wiry, or it is intermittent. Treatment principles: Promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, promote qi circulation and relieve pain.

4. Representative prescriptions: Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction, Shentong Zhuyu Decoction, Fuyuan Huoxue Decoction, Shaofu Zhuyu Decoction, Tongqiao Huoxue Decoction, Gexia Zhuyu Decoction, etc.

In addition to taking medicine, you should also pay attention to the following points:

1. Maintaining a happy mood helps improve the circulation of qi and blood. Avoid the impact of negative emotions such as anger, fear, worry, etc. on the circulation of qi and blood.

2. Stick to physical activities. The amount of exercise varies from person to person. Each exercise should reach the point where you sweat slightly.

3. The water in the body is discharged through breathing, skin evaporation, and urination and defecation. If water is not replenished in time, the water content in the blood may decrease, resulting in increased blood viscosity and slow blood circulation. Therefore, people with qi stagnation and blood stasis constitution should drink more water, with daily intake of no less than 2000 ml, about 8 cups of water.

4. Keep doing brisk walking. According to tests, the amount of oxygen inhaled while brisk walking is 8 times that of when the human body is in a quiet state, which can greatly improve blood stasis.

5. Coldness causes qi stagnation and blood coagulation. People with qi stagnation and blood stasis constitution should not stay in a cold environment for too long, in addition to keeping warm with clothes and quilts.

6. The room temperature in winter should not be lower than 20 degrees Celsius. When using air conditioning to cool down in the summer, the room temperature should not be too low, generally it should be kept at around 25 to 26 degrees.

7. Taking a hot water bath every day is beneficial to improving the circulation of qi and blood throughout the body. If you can take medicated baths and massage regularly, the effect will be better.

8. Eat less salt and MSG to avoid increased blood viscosity and increased degree of blood stasis.

9. Avoid eating foods that may cause bloating, such as sweet potatoes, taro, broad beans, chestnuts, etc.

10. Avoid eating too much fatty meat, cream, eel, crab roe, egg yolk, fish roe, chocolate, fried food, and sweets to prevent increased blood lipids, blockage of blood vessels, and impact on the circulation of qi and blood.
