Can spasmodic torticollis be cured?

Can spasmodic torticollis be cured?

Spasmodic torticollis is a type of dystonia. It is mainly limited to the muscles of the neck, because the muscles of the neck often have continuous or periodic involuntary contractions, which can easily lead to twisting of the head and neck and abnormal posture. The incidence of this condition is relatively high. It is more likely to occur between the ages of 30 and 40. It can be treated through certain methods.

Can spasmodic torticollis be cured?

Spasmodic torticollis is a disease in which the neck causes involuntary movement disorders such as twisting to one side or leaning forward or backward. This abnormal manifestation is particularly aggravated when the patient is in public places, busy or even hungry, making it impossible for the patient to lead a normal life and posing a great threat to the patient's mental health. 80% of patients with spasmodic torticollis also experience pain, as well as headaches and neck pain; 1/3 of patients have spasms in the cheeks, eyelids, hands, or trunk, and about 25% of patients have standing or movement tremors. These symptoms bring great pain to patients' lives.

1. Western medicine:

Oral antipsychotic preparations are mostly choleretic drugs. Such as: Antan (but with greater side effects) and clozoxazone, Almar, etc. However, the drug effects are not ideal and can only make the already disordered nerve functions even more chaotic, adding insult to injury.

2. Injection of botulinum toxin:

Botulinum toxin is a method that patients are more willing to accept. Botulinum toxin is injected locally into the muscle, and the longest duration generally does not exceed half a year. However, patients must know that botulinum toxin treatment can only paralyze peripheral nerves and relax muscles, but it will bring many complications, such as fever, fatigue, and poor appetite. It is easy to cause sequelae such as stiffness, weakness, and pain in the neck muscles. In severe cases, swallowing and breathing difficulties may also occur.

3. Acupuncture and massage:

Acupuncture and massage are traditional treatment methods in my country. Are the universal acupuncture and massage also applicable to spasmodic torticollis? The answer is no. Acupuncture and massage are only auxiliary treatments to alleviate the condition. Long-term acupuncture will cause the neck to become more stiff and uncomfortable, but massage still has certain benefits to the human body and can be used for health care. If it is used as the sole first choice for treatment of spasmodic torticollis, it is absolutely not advisable. The effect will be counterproductive and you cannot afford to waste time, money and illness.

4. Surgical treatment:

Surgical treatment of spasmodic torticollis only involves cutting the ligaments and blocking nerve conduction, which is obviously inconsistent with the pathogenesis and cannot fundamentally solve the problem. Since there are many surgical procedures for treating spasmodic torticollis, including neuromicrovascular decompression therapy and deep brain stimulation, which are relatively advanced and effective treatment methods, the key to cure is to choose a formal, authoritative, and clinically experienced expert for surgical treatment. Secondly, there is a high chance of recurrence after spasmodic torticollis surgery, which will cause painful trauma to the patient and recur repeatedly, so surgical treatment should be adopted with caution.

5. TCM treatment of anatomy:

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this disease falls into the category of "liver and kidney yin deficiency, and internal movement of virtual wind". Yin essence is the material basis of human life activities, and the yin essence of the liver and kidney is the foundation of life. The formation of spasmodic torticollis is ultimately due to deficiency of liver and kidney yin essence, which fails to control yang and causes internal movement of virtual wind. The director of our hospital has studied this disease for more than 40 years. Combining a large number of clinical case studies of patients with spasmodic torticollis, he has summarized the treatment method with the highest cure rate at present - "Nerve Repair Soup", a pure Chinese medicine for the treatment of spasmodic torticollis. By starting from the root cause of the disease, it solves the root cause of spasmodic torticollis by nourishing the liver and kidneys, promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, opening the orifices and dredging the meridians, extinguishing wind and stopping spasms, etc., to prevent recurrence.
