The best treatment for Achilles tendinitis

Achilles tendonitis is a relatively common disease manifestation. It is not necessarily caused by inflammation. It is likely to be a sterile Achilles tendonitis. It is closely related to sprains caused by walking and long-term strain. There are many treatments. If it is not particularly serious, it can be treated with some physical therapy, cold compresses, massage and other methods. Of course, if it is more serious, surgery can also be used for treatment.

The best treatment for Achilles tendinitis

There are many clinical methods for the treatment of Achilles tendonitis, and patients are often overwhelmed by the many treatment options. However, general treatment starts with non-surgical treatment, which includes reducing activity, physical therapy, ice compresses, and Achilles tendon stretching exercises. At the same time, you can use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory analgesics such as Voltaren and raise the heel by 1.5 cm.

First, stop exercising immediately:

Once Achilles tendinitis is diagnosed, the patient should immediately stop all activities, take medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen, and apply ice to the affected area several times a day for 15-20 minutes each time until the inflammation subsides. If you feel you need to use NSAIDs long-term, you should consult your doctor first, because some of these drugs can only be used for a short period of time (usually 7 to 10 days) to avoid side effects.

Next, massage the affected area :

Self-massage also has a certain effect, and using massage cream and essential oils to do heat introduction massage is also feasible. Place your hands on the affected area and gently rotate them back and forth to relax the muscle tissue, 3 times a day. After the nodules on the Achilles tendon disappear, you can start calf muscle stretching exercises, followed by rope skipping and slow bouncing exercises, and then gradually transition to low-intensity jogging. The whole process takes 6-8 weeks. Remember, you can only resume exercise when you no longer feel pain when standing on tiptoes.

Third, support pad:

Using a support pad that elevates the ankle to reduce stretch on the Achilles tendon is also a good treatment option. A splint may also be used during sleep to keep the Achilles tendon immobilized. If the condition is severe, a walking boot or crutches may be recommended to help the Achilles tendon heal.

Finally, surgery:

If treatment is not effective, surgery may be needed to remove the inflamed tissue around the Achilles tendon. Experts point out that unless it is absolutely necessary, surgical removal of the inflamed tissue around the Achilles tendon is generally not considered, because such surgery not only has little effect, but also often stimulates scar proliferation in the damaged area.
