What are the symptoms of pulmonary edema?

Pulmonary edema, also known as pulmonary edema, is a relatively common disease. In recent years, the incidence of pulmonary edema has shown a clear upward trend. After suffering from pulmonary edema, it often causes a variety of hazards and causes a variety of symptoms. For example, during the interstitial stage of pulmonary edema, patients will cause coughing and chest tightness, which will lead to shortness of breath. Severe cases will cause difficulty breathing and cause mixed acidosis, etc.

Symptoms of pulmonary edema

1. Interstitial stage of pulmonary edema

Patients often have cough, chest tightness, and mild shallow and rapid breathing. Physical examination may reveal wheezing in both lungs, and signs of heart disease may be found in cardiogenic pulmonary edema. After pulmonary edema fluid infiltrates into the alveoli, the patient may appear pale, cyanotic, have severe breathing difficulties, cough up large amounts of white or bloody foamy sputum, and have wet rales in both lungs. Blood gas analysis showed worsening hypoxemia, even CO2 retention and mixed acidosis.

2. Typical acute pulmonary edema,

It can be divided into four periods according to the process of pathological changes. The clinical symptoms and signs of each period are described as follows.

3. Interstitial edema stage:

The main symptoms are nocturnal paroxysmal dyspnea, being forced to sit upright accompanied by cold sweats and restlessness, cyanosis of the lips, dry rales or wheezing sounds in both lungs, tachycardia, and increased blood pressure.

Alveolar edema stage: The main symptoms are severe dyspnea, sitting breathing, accompanied by a feeling of fear and suffocation, and a pale gray complexion. The skin and lips are obviously cyanotic, there is profuse sweating, coughing, and coughing up large amounts of pink foamy sputum. Incontinence may occur. Both lungs are filled with sudden moist rales.

4. Shock period:

A large amount of plasma extravasation in a short period of time leads to a rapid decrease in blood volume, resulting in hypovolemic shock. At the same time, due to the significant weakening of myocardial contractility, cardiogenic shock is caused, with symptoms of shock such as rapid breathing, decreased blood pressure, cold and clammy skin, oliguria or anuria, accompanied by changes in consciousness and awareness.

5. Terminal stage:

They are in a coma and often die of heart and lung failure.
