Can I take the antipyretic medicine again after vomiting?

Can I take the antipyretic medicine again after vomiting?

Everyone's symptoms of a cold are somewhat different. Some may have a severe cough; some may have a persistent fever; and some may vomit. Of course, most people will experience several different symptoms, especially when they have a fever, which can be very painful, but can you still take antipyretics after vomiting? In this case, there is no need to eat it again, because it will be absorbed after eating it. Eating it again will be excessive and harmful to the body. Just take the next dose on time.

Generally, you don't need to take the medicine if you vomit. Just take the medicine on time after a few hours. Vomiting means that the medicine has been absorbed and there is no need to add more. Just take it the second time when the time comes. This way, you can achieve the therapeutic effect without causing side effects due to taking too much.

When you have a high fever, do you need to take antipyretics immediately to quickly lower your body temperature? Dr. Tomato suggests that you should pay attention to four time periods when using antipyretics.

1. Body temperature reaches 38.5℃

When the body temperature reaches this temperature, use antipyretics. Medical engineers explained the reason. When the human body is at a fever level below 38.5℃, it is within the safe range of its own immune function and there is no need to take antipyretics for the time being. You can drink some salt water to replenish the electrolytes lost by sweating due to increased body temperature, and it also helps to cool down. Generally, we can also use a towel soaked in warm water to wipe the forehead, neck, and limbs, or we can use low-concentration alcohol to wipe the palms, soles of the feet, and armpits. If you take antipyretics too early, it will affect your immune function, prolong the illness, and mask the original symptoms, making it difficult for doctors to diagnose. However, if the child has a history of high fever, he or she can take antipyretics first.

2. Half an hour after taking antipyretics

This is the time when antipyretic drugs begin to take effect. Antipyretic drugs generally take effect 30 minutes to two hours after taking the medicine. Pay attention to your body temperature after taking the medicine. Do not rush to increase the dosage or change the antipyretic medicine to avoid drug overdose. Common antipyretic drugs include paracetamol and ibuprofen. It is best to wait at least 6 hours before taking the next dose. Some people can't wait for their body temperature to drop, and continue to take the same medicine in a very short interval, or take other antipyretic drugs at the same time. Doctor Tomato reminds that this method of medication will damage the liver and kidneys and cause accumulation of antipyretic drugs in the body.

3. Stop taking the medicine when the body temperature drops below 38.5℃

38.5℃ is the critical point of human body temperature. When taking antipyretics, the body temperature drops below 38.5℃, and the body's immune system has returned to normal. Only physical measures are needed to further reduce the temperature. At the same time, stopping the medication can help reduce drug damage to the body.

4. If taking antipyretics three times is ineffective, seek medical attention immediately

Usually the preliminary diagnosis of fever is due to a cold, with a body temperature not exceeding 39.5℃, mild symptoms and good spirits. You can drink more boiled water at home, take antipyretics and observe. Doctor Tomato reminds that if the fever does not go down after taking antipyretics three times, and is accompanied by diarrhea, vomiting, poor mental state, and persistent high fever, you should seek medical attention immediately.
