What to do if your lower body itches during late pregnancy

Some pregnant women will experience private itching in the late stages of pregnancy. Don't be too anxious at this time. There are many reasons for this symptom. Some are caused by mental factors, and some may be caused by external stimuli. At this time, pay attention to timely cleaning, try not to use some lotions with side effects, keep the vulva clean, change underwear in time, and pay attention to diet conditioning.

Causes of vulvar itching during pregnancy

The causes of vulvar itching during pregnancy are complex. Some are caused by mental factors, some are caused by external stimuli, and more are caused by increased vaginal secretions and local moisture stimulation. In addition, due to changes in the acidity and alkalinity (PH value) in the vagina, it is easy for fungi to multiply and cause vaginitis. Sometimes it may be due to abnormal sugar metabolism that causes sugar in the urine, leading to genital itching.

1. Vulvar itching caused by mental factors. Medical research has shown that after women become pregnant, certain changes in their lives, such as reduced or interrupted sexual intercourse, fear of pregnancy, insomnia, etc., often cause vulvar itching.

2. Vulvar itching caused by external stimuli. Itching can be caused by excessive sweat, moisture, and immersion; wearing underwear with a harder texture or some expectant mothers being allergic to certain chemical fiber underwear can also cause itching; using soap to clean the vulva can cause itching, etc.

3. Vulvar itching caused by diseases such as vaginitis Vulvar itching is the main symptom of diseases such as candidal vaginitis, Trichomonas vaginitis, and vulvar eczema.

What to do if your vagina is itchy during late pregnancy

When an expectant mother experiences symptoms of vulvar itching, counting fetal movements is the most important thing. The expectant mother herself is more likely to understand whether her baby's movements are normal than the doctor. Therefore, by learning to count fetal movements correctly, she can seek medical attention as soon as possible when the fetus suffers from intrauterine hypoxia. As soon as itching appears, you should start counting fetal movements, even if you have not gone to the hospital to confirm whether it is pruritus during pregnancy. It is recommended to count once in the morning, noon and evening, each time for one hour. At the same time, you should carefully record the fetal movement record form given to you by the doctor and bring it to the doctor during each prenatal check-up. Add up the three counts each day and multiply by 3 to get the number of fetal movements in 12 hours. For example, if the number of fetal movements in 12 hours is less than 20 times or is reduced to less than half of the usual number, it indicates that the fetus is suffering from hypoxia and you should go to the hospital for treatment. What should you pay attention to when you have vulvar itching during late pregnancy?

1. Mental stress and emotional excitement will aggravate itching, so pregnant women should first reduce their mental burden and avoid irritability and anxiety.

2. Avoid scratching to relieve itching. Because of constant scratching, the skin often turns red and scratches appear, causing the epidermis to fall off and blood scabs to form. Over time, this will lead to thickening of the skin and darkening of pigmentation, which will in turn aggravate the itching and may even cause purulent infection.

3. If there is local damage or infection, soak it in 1:5000 potassium permanganate solution (add a small amount of potassium permanganate powder to warm water to make it light red, not too concentrated) twice a day, each time for 20 to 30 minutes.

4. See a doctor to check whether there is fungus or trichomonas. If so, seek timely treatment instead of using "anti-itching water" to treat it yourself.

5. Those who fail to recover after long-term treatment should have their blood sugar checked.
