What is high blood lipids?

High blood lipids refers to high blood lipid levels. If the body's blood lipids are always high, it will cause great harm to the body's health and easily lead to the occurrence of some serious diseases, the more common ones are pancreatitis, coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis, etc. When high blood lipids appear, you must strengthen your diet and actively carry out good treatment to avoid serious damage to your health.

The causes of hyperlipidemia can be divided into primary and secondary types. Primary is related to congenital and genetic factors, and is caused by single gene defects or multiple gene defects, which lead to abnormalities of receptors, enzymes or apolipoproteins involved in lipoprotein transport and metabolism, or by environmental factors (diet, nutrition, drugs) and through unknown mechanisms.

Secondary disease often occurs in metabolic disorders (diabetes, hypertension, myxedema, hypothyroidism, obesity, liver and kidney diseases, hyperadrenocortical function), or is related to other factors such as age, gender, season, drinking, smoking, diet, physical activity, mental stress, emotional activity, etc.

Clinical manifestations The clinical manifestations of hyperlipidemia are mainly xanthomas caused by lipid deposition in the dermis and arteriosclerosis caused by lipid deposition in the vascular endothelium.

Although hyperlipidemia can cause xanthomas, its incidence is not very high; the occurrence and development of atherosclerosis is a slow and gradual process. Therefore, under normal circumstances, most patients have no obvious symptoms or abnormal signs. Many people only discover elevated plasma lipoprotein levels when undergoing blood biochemistry tests for other reasons.

Dietary therapy: Plasma lipids are mainly derived from food. By controlling diet, plasma cholesterol levels can be reduced by 5% to 10%, which can also help lose weight. And make lipid-lowering drugs play the best effect. Most patients with type III hyperlipoproteinemia can reduce their blood lipid levels to normal through dietary treatment and correction of other coexisting metabolic disorders. The timing of dietary treatment depends mainly on the patient's risk of coronary heart disease and plasma LDL-cholesterol level. In general, the higher the risk of coronary heart disease, the lower the plasma LDL-cholesterol level at which dietary therapy should be initiated.

Dietary treatment for hyperlipidemia is to lower the LDL-cholesterol level in plasma while maintaining ideal body weight by controlling diet. Dietary structure can directly affect the level of blood lipids. Plasma cholesterol levels are easily affected by dietary cholesterol intake. Eating large amounts of saturated fatty acids can also increase cholesterol synthesis. Generally, foods such as meat, eggs and dairy products (especially egg yolks and animal offal) contain high levels of cholesterol and saturated fatty acids and should be consumed in limited quantities. Edible oil should be mainly vegetable oil, and the daily dosage per person should be 25 to 30 grams. Patients with familial hypercholesterolemia should strictly limit their intake of cholesterol and fatty acids in their diet.
