Can a pregnancy test detect cerebral palsy?

Women should go to the hospital for regular prenatal checkups during pregnancy. This is also an important way to ensure the health of the fetus and pregnant women. It is difficult to detect cerebral palsy during the prenatal checkup. This is because cerebral palsy occurs unconsciously during pregnancy, and some conditions of the fetus’ brain tissue cannot be detected. It is not easy to check whether the child has cerebral palsy. Of course, pregnant women should strengthen prevention during pregnancy and maintain good living habits. This is the best prevention method.

Can cerebral palsy be detected during prenatal examination? It is not easy to detect cerebral palsy in children during pregnancy. B-ultrasound is only an ultrasonic imaging examination and cannot detect the brain tissue inside the head. Therefore, cerebral palsy is not easy to detect, but B-ultrasound can detect external deformities.

An ultrasound examination can only observe the fetal structure, measure the size of the head and the length of the body, and make a general judgment on whether the fetus has any deformities. However, it is still impossible to determine whether the fetus's brain tissue and brain cells are damaged. If you want to confirm whether your baby has cerebral palsy, you need to undergo a physical examination as well as CT and MRI examinations. Therefore, it is impossible to detect cerebral palsy simply through B-ultrasound examination.

Causes of fetal cerebral palsy:

The cause of the disease is still unclear. It may be related to endometrial lesions, such as endometritis or endometrial damage caused by infection, multiple births, multiple curettages, cesarean sections, etc., which can cause incomplete growth of uterine decidua blood vessels and insufficient blood supply when the fertilized egg is implanted. In order to absorb enough nutrients, the placenta expands and extends to the lower part of the uterus. It may also be because the trophoblast of the fertilized egg develops slowly. When the fertilized egg reaches the uterine cavity, it has not yet developed to the stage where it can implant, and continues to move down to the lower segment of the uterus to implant.

Hypoxia and asphyxia: including fetal hypoxia and asphyxia in the mother's womb, neonatal hypoxia and asphyxia during delivery, respiratory distress syndrome, circulatory failure, and polycythemia.

Causes for pregnant women: including abdominal trauma, threatened abortion, prenatal hemorrhage, pregnancy toxemia, placental causes (placental abruption, placenta previa, placental necrosis or placental dysfunction), and certain chronic diseases of pregnant women (hypertension, hepatitis, diabetes, drug abuse, drug overdose, etc.).

In addition, there are some factors that can also cause fetal cerebral palsy: such as congenital malformations, genetic defects, intrauterine infection, threatened abortion, maternal exposure to toxic substances, radiation damage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, etc.

What expectant mothers are most worried about is their children's health, so they actively cooperate with prenatal checkups. However, cerebral palsy in children cannot be detected through B-ultrasound, so parents need to do a good job of prevention and care in daily life. In order to ensure that the child does not have cerebral palsy, other relevant examinations can be carried out.
