What causes neuralgia throughout the body?

If systemic neuralgia occurs, it is mainly because of abnormal nerves that cause symptoms of pain. The more common ones include trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, cervical shoulder and arm neuralgia, etc. This kind of pain has a relatively large impact on patients and often causes special distress to patients. At this time, certain methods must be used for treatment, and prevention must be strengthened in daily life to avoid adverse harm to health.

What causes neuralgia throughout the body?

1. Trigeminal neuralgia: common in inflammatory infiltration, atherosclerotic compression, cerebellopontine angle tumors, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, trigeminal ganglion tumors, chordoma, multiple sclerosis, etc. 2. Sphenopalatine ganglion pain, pterygoid neuralgia, and geniculate ganglion pain: seen in sinusitis, sphenoid sinusitis, ethmoid sinusitis, nasal structure deformation, nasal septum deviation due to mechanical compression of the middle turbinate, skull base fracture, metastatic cancer, herpes zoster virus infection, etc.

3. Occipital neuralgia: common in neuritis, upper respiratory tract infection, influenza, malaria, rheumatism, diabetes, thyroid disease, alcohol, lead poisoning, occipital and neck trauma, cervical spondylosis, rheumatoid spondylitis or metastatic cancer, basilar indentation, foramen magnum stenosis, atlanto-occipital fusion, atlantoaxial dislocation, incomplete septation of upper cervical vertebrae, cerebellar tonsillar herniation, intraspinal tumors, foramen magnum tumors, adhesive spinal meningitis, syringomyelia, suboccipital joint ligament injury, anterior and posterior arch fractures of the atlas, atlantoaxial subluxation, cervical muscle injury, etc. 4. Intercostal neuralgia: common in infectious and toxic radiculitis, pleurisy, chronic pneumonia, aortic aneurysm, mitral valve stenosis, thoracic organ lesions, thoracic tuberculosis, tumors, ankylosing spondylitis, spinal cord tumors, spinal cord inflammation and other spinal lesions, rib tumors, rib fractures, bone calluses, and herpes zoster. 5. Cervical, shoulder and brachial neuralgia, and brachial plexus neuritis: common in cervical spondylosis, neck swellings, tumors, herpes zoster, influenza, typhoid fever, malaria and other infections, colds, and vaccinations with heterologous serum vaccines. 6. Ulnar neuralgia, median neuralgia and lateral femoral cutaneous neuralgia are seen in neuritis, trauma, local inflammation and compressive lesions. 7. Femoral neuralgia and sciatica: seen in nerve root diseases such as tumor compression, lumbar disc herniation, tumor, inflammation and other diseases. 8. Coccyx pain: seen in trauma, fractures, etc. 9. Burning neuralgia: seen in trauma such as knife cuts, crush injuries, severe blows, especially firearm injuries, chemical injuries, infections, etc.

Precautions

Neuralgia mostly occurs when nerves are irritated or inflamed. The pain is distributed along the nerves and can be fleeting or chronic. It manifests itself in various forms and includes pain, tingling, tactile hypersensitivity or loss of sensation in the affected nerves, redness and swelling of the affected area, and in severe cases, cramps.

The causes of neuritis vary, including nutrient deficiency (vitamin B), metabolic disorders, direct external blows or fractures, compression of nerves by blood vessels, bones or connective tissues, nerve infections, diabetes, gout, blood cancer, etc. Taking methanol, excessive amounts of toxic metals such as lead and mercury can also cause nerve damage.

The more common neuralgia include trigeminal neuralgia (mostly occurs in people over 50 years old), sciatica, and tingling caused by shingles. When the optic nerve in the eye becomes inflamed, vision may become blurred gradually or suddenly. In severe cases, temporary blindness may occur after a few days, and there may also be eye pain. Home treatment measures can be taken.
