What to do if your throat and tonsils are swollen

Swollen tonsils in the throat can cause pain, and in severe cases can affect the normal function of the oral cavity. So what are swollen tonsils in the throat? In fact, tonsils are a kind of nodular tissue in the human body. Under normal circumstances, they will not cause a major impact on human health. However, after they become swollen, they may affect oral problems and therefore require timely treatment. As for how to take effective methods for treatment, it requires specific analysis based on the specific situation.

Chinese medicine treatment

Swollen tonsils are generally caused by congestion in the tonsil area due to repeated inflammation of the tonsils. Adopt the theory of traditional Chinese medicine of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. Transdermal administration, long-lasting effect. The purpose is to gradually reduce the congestion and thus achieve the purpose of shrinking the tonsils. Currently proven Chinese medicine external patches, such as the most popular tonsil patch, are generally applied to the affected area for 15-24 hours.

Treat early

Swollen tonsils should be treated as early as possible. In the early stages of the disease, when you first begin to experience the above symptoms (see the second-level heading "Symptoms" in the first-level heading of this entry "What are Enlarged Tonsils"), you should go to a relevant hospital for examination as soon as possible. Many patients with swollen tonsils do not understand the condition, so they do not receive timely treatment for their swollen tonsils in the early stages of symptoms, which causes the condition to worsen.

Surgery or not

Tonsillectomy may be necessary if there are frequent episodes of tonsillitis, or if the tonsil disease affects the child's overall health or causes the child to interrupt his or her education, or affects hearing or breathing. However, sometimes tonsillectomy is unnecessary and other problems should be considered if the diagnosis is in doubt.

Indications for tonsillectomy include: tonsillitis occurs four or more times a year; tonsillitis occurs three or more times a year within two years; upper airway obstruction caused by swollen tonsils, resulting in severe snoring, difficulty swallowing, unclear pronunciation, etc.; one or more tonsillar abscesses; tonsils cause systemic diseases and become focal tonsils; repeated inflammation of the tonsils causes repeated attacks of rhinitis, otitis media, tracheitis, etc. or long-term treatment is unrecoverable.

Preventive Care

The first thing is to enhance the body's resistance and pay attention to the combination of work and rest. Many people often work night shifts, which can easily lead to inflammation and enlargement of the tonsils. Secondly, we should reduce the stimulation of smoking and drinking, and develop good study and life habits. At the same time, diseases of adjacent organs, such as acute and chronic rhinitis, should also be actively treated.

Daily care for swollen tonsils:

1. Pay attention to rest, drink plenty of water, have a bowel movement, eat liquid or soft food, and pay attention to early infusion treatment when throat pain is obvious to prevent the spread of infection.

2. Children with tonsils should be given a liquid diet, eat less irritating food, eat more light food, and rinse their mouths after each meal.

3. When the disease recurs or is accompanied by corresponding symptoms, an electrocardiogram, urine or anti-O test can be performed during an acute attack to rule out the possibility of complications such as nephritis, myocarditis, arthritis, etc.

4. Pay attention to oral hygiene and drink more boiled water or fruit juice to replenish water in the body.

5. Patients with chronic tonsillitis should develop good living habits, ensure adequate sleep time, add or remove clothes in time with weather changes, and remove humid air indoors. These are all important. Sick children should develop good habits of not being picky about food and not overeating.

6. Keep exercising to improve the body's ability to resist disease. Do not overwork. If you feel tired, you should adjust and rest in time. Quitting smoking and drinking is an important step in preventing chronic tonsillitis.

7. Prevent all kinds of infectious diseases and epidemics, eat liquid or semi-liquid food, and use alcohol bath for those with high fever to help reduce the temperature.

8. Pay attention to improving dietary nutrition, strengthening physical fitness and improving body resistance.
