How to take Chinese medicine to increase milk production

In the past, the reason for women's insufficient milk was different nutrition, but in modern society, the main reason for women's insufficient milk is blood stagnation and liver qi stagnation. In order to produce milk as soon as possible after giving birth, women should eat more foods that help produce milk. For example, crucian carp and tofu soup can achieve a very good milk-inducing effect. For women with very little milk, they can also use Chinese medicine to increase milk production. So what Chinese medicine can help increase milk production?

What Chinese medicine can promote lactation?

According to traditional Chinese medicine, there are two main reasons why new mothers lack milk: one is weak qi and blood, and the other is liver depression and qi stagnation.

· Qi and blood deficiency

Qi and blood deficiency is mostly caused by excessive bleeding during or after delivery, which leads to weak spleen and stomach and qi and blood deficiency. Milk is produced from Qi and blood. If Qi and blood are insufficient, milk will be scarce or non-existent and will be very thin. In this case, "Tongrudan" can be used for treatment.

"Tongrudan" comes from "Fu Qingzhu's Gynecology" and is composed of ginseng, astragalus, angelica, Ophiopogon japonicus, Akebia, Platycodon grandiflorum, and seven-hole pig's trotter (without the toe shells). Among them, ginseng and astragalus can replenish qi, angelica can replenish blood, Ophiopogon japonicus can nourish yin and blood, and pig's trotter can nourish blood and activate collaterals. In current clinical applications, in order to reduce costs, ginseng is often replaced with Codonopsis pilosula or Pseudostellaria heterophylla, and Akebia trifoliata is replaced with Glehnia littoralis to avoid adverse kidney reactions.

· Liver depression and qi stagnation

This type of milk deficiency may be closely related to the new mother's poor mental state after giving birth, which is manifested as poor breast function, depression, or low fever, and thin yellow tongue coating. In this case, "Xia Ru Yong Quan San" can be used.

"Xia Ru Yong Quan San" comes from "Prescriptions of Qing Imperial Hospital". It is composed of 14 herbs including fenugreek (fried), green peel, tongcao, lou lu, angelica, platycodon, rehmannia, white peony, chuanxiong, angelica dahurica, radix trichosanthis, bupleurum, licorice, and pangolin. It can dredge meridians, promote qi circulation, and nourish blood.

In addition, new mothers can also take lactation-inducing drugs or diet under the guidance of a doctor. As long as the milk supply is sufficient, the medication can be stopped.
