What reactions will occur after rabies vaccination?

There are no serious adverse reactions after rabies vaccination. Slight reactions may occur at the injection site 12 to 24 hours after the injection, such as redness or mild nodules, itching, and swelling. These adverse reactions will disappear on their own within 24 to 48 hours without leaving any traces, so there is no need to stop the injection of rabies vaccine. Occasionally, systemic allergic reactions manifest as urticaria of varying sizes on the neck, arms, trunk, and legs, which disappear without leaving any traces. A small number of people may also experience systemic reactions, including general discomfort, mild fever, headache, dizziness, fatigue, itchy skin or rash, and loss of appetite within 1 to 7 days after the injection. In very rare cases, rare allergic reactions may occur, leading to anaphylactic shock (such as pale complexion, low blood pressure, weakened pulse, cold limbs, dizziness, chest tightness, etc.). Mild allergic reactions may resolve on their own and do not require treatment. Severe allergies can be treated. Anti-allergic drugs, such as astemizole or chlorpheniramine, should be given, and cardiotonic drugs should be given to rescue shock. Medical staff should be actively organized to provide rescue until the patient recovers to normal to prevent serious consequences. For this reason, when vaccinating against rabies, emergency medicines should be routinely available on site, especially for those with a history of allergies. It is best to go to a special vaccination clinic to get the rabies vaccine, especially the first shot, and try to go to the injection room of a hospital with rescue equipment. The purpose of this is to provide timely rescue even if an allergic reaction occurs.
