What causes dull pain in the lower right side of the abdomen?

1. Routine examination of blood, urine, and stool

Increased total white blood cell count and neutrophil count indicate inflammatory lesions, which are items that almost every patient with abdominal pain needs to be examined.

2. Blood biochemical examination

Increased serum amylase indicates pancreatitis and is the most commonly used blood biochemical test in the differential diagnosis of abdominal pain. Examination of liver, kidney function and electrolytes is also helpful in diagnosing the condition.

3. Routine and biochemical examination of peritoneal puncture fluid

When abdominal pain is undiagnosed and ascites is found, abdominal puncture examination must be performed. The fluid obtained from the puncture should be sent for routine and biochemical examinations, and bacterial culture should be performed if necessary.

4. X-ray examination

Abdominal X-rays are the most widely used examination in the diagnosis of abdominal pain. Calcifications in the ureter may indicate ureteral stones. Blurred or disappeared psoas muscle shadow indicates retroperitoneal inflammation or bleeding.

5. Real-time ultrasound and CT examination

It plays an important role in the differential diagnosis of liver, gallbladder and pancreatic diseases.

6. Endoscopic examination

It can be used for the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal diseases, which is often needed in patients with chronic abdominal pain.

7.B-ultrasound examination

It is mainly used to examine bile duct and urinary system stones, bile duct dilatation, pancreas and hepatosplenomegaly, etc. It also has good diagnostic value for small amounts of abdominal effusion, intra-abdominal cysts and inflammatory tumors.
