Are there any complications after hernia surgery?

We know that only a small number of hernia patients do not need surgical treatment. Whether there will be complications after surgery is a question that many patients are concerned about. So will there be complications after hernia surgery?

Hernia first affects the patient's digestive system, resulting in symptoms such as lower abdominal distension, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, poor nutrient absorption, fatigue and physical deterioration. Because the groin is adjacent to the urinary and reproductive systems, elderly patients are prone to bladder or prostate diseases such as frequent urination, urgency, and nocturia; children may suffer from the normal development of the testicles due to the squeezing of hernias; and young and middle-aged patients are prone to sexual dysfunction. Also, because the intestines or omentum in the hernia sac are easily squeezed or collided, causing inflammatory swelling, it is difficult to reduce the hernia, leading to hernia incarceration, as well as dangerous situations such as intestinal obstruction, intestinal necrosis, and severe abdominal pain.

Postoperative urinary retention is common after hernia surgery, usually due to urethral sphincter spasm. Generally, patients with prostate disease should avoid using a urinary catheter.

Now the first thing to do is:

one. Try to comfort the patient, relieve his mental burden and eliminate tension.

two. Compression catheterization: ask the patient to stand upright and press with hands to force urination;

three. The conscious induced urination method, based on compression catheterization, uses a kettle to drip water into a basin behind the patient, making a sound like urination, to make the patient feel the urge to urinate. If necessary, urination can be performed by transabdominal bladder puncture. For reference only!
