Can sulfuric acid corrode plastic?

Can sulfuric acid corrode plastic?

Sulfuric acid is one of the three strong acids and is highly corrosive. However, sulfuric acid cannot corrode plastic. In laboratories, plastic bottles are used to hold sulfuric acid. Sulfuric acid has a wide range of uses in industry. Sulfuric acid has strong oxidizing properties and can absorb water. It has many uses in production and life. Pay attention to safety when using sulfuric acid and operate in strict accordance with the operating procedures.

Plastic is a high molecular compound made from monomers through addition polymerization or condensation polymerization. It is commonly known as plastic or resin. It can freely change its composition and shape. It is composed of synthetic resin and additives such as fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, colorants, etc.

characteristic:

① Most plastics are lightweight, chemically stable, and will not rust.

②Good impact resistance, good transparency and abrasion resistance.

③Good insulation, low thermal conductivity, good general formability and colorability, and low processing cost.

④Poor dimensional stability and easy to deform.

⑤ Most plastics have poor low-temperature resistance, become brittle at low temperatures, and are prone to aging.

Plastics can be divided into two categories: thermosetting and thermoplastic. The former cannot be reshaped and reused, while the latter can be produced repeatedly. The physical elongation of thermoplasticity is relatively large, generally between 50% and 500%. The force does not change completely linearly at different elongations.

advantage:

① Most plastics have strong corrosion resistance and do not react with acids or alkalis.

②The manufacturing cost of plastic is low.

③Durable, waterproof and lightweight.

④Easy to be molded into different shapes.

⑤It is a good insulator.

⑥Plastics can be used to prepare fuel oil and fuel gas, which can reduce crude oil consumption.

shortcoming:

① When recycling waste plastics, sorting is very difficult and economically uneconomical.

②Plastic is easy to burn and produces toxic gases when burning.

③Plastics are made from petroleum refining products, and petroleum resources are limited.

④Plastic will not rot even if buried underground for hundreds, thousands or even tens of thousands of years.

⑤Plastics have poor heat resistance and are prone to aging.
