Is liposuction useful for lipomas?

Lipoma is a relatively common benign tumor. Generally speaking, as long as the lipoma does not grow particularly obviously and the growth rate is not particularly fast, you don't need to pay attention to it. If you really need treatment, you should go to the hospital for examination in time. There are many treatment methods. The most common one is surgical resection. Among them, lipoma liposuction is also a relatively common method. Liposuction is the method to absorb the fat in the lipoma area.

Lipoma treatment methods

1. Surgical resection The so-called surgical resection means cutting off the lesion. In addition to achieving the therapeutic effect, it can also be determined through pathological examination whether it is benign. Usually, for a single lesion, excision is the main approach. After the operation, as long as the wound is kept clean and inflammation such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain is avoided, most patients can recover smoothly.

2. Liposuction is similar to liposuction surgery. It mainly sucks out the fat in the lipoma to reduce the size of the lipoma. The advantages are that the wound is smaller than that of surgical resection, the recovery period is shorter, and no special care is required. It is suitable for patients with a single overly large lipoma or multiple lipomas. Once multiple lipomas are treated with surgery, multiple wounds will be caused, which is not conducive to treatment and care. If a lipoma that is too large is surgically removed, the wound will often be larger and the postoperative recovery period will be longer. Therefore, liposuction is suitable for treatment.

For multiple lipomas, doctors will only perform surgical removal unless they have grown too large and have affected their appearance and function. Since lipomas grow slowly, patients do not need to rush for treatment. Instead, they should observe the condition of the lipoma and monitor their physical condition at all times. However, we would like to remind everyone that the larger the lipoma, the more complicated the surgical removal will be. At the same time, the wound and recovery period will be larger and longer than those of small lipomas. Therefore, if patients wish to receive treatment, it is better to deal with it early.

Lipoma symptoms

Lipomas generally occur in the trunk, limbs, and abdominal cavity, mainly under the skin, but can also be seen deep in the limbs and between the muscle bellies. Deep lipomas often grow along the muscles and can reach deep into the periosteum, but rarely invade adjacent bones.

Lipoma is generally a solitary lump, sometimes multiple, with clear boundaries, round or lobed shape, soft texture, slow growth, normal surface skin, movable, and varying sizes. Lipoma generally has no subjective symptoms, but it can cause pain if it compresses nerves.

Lipoma Diagnosis

For general lipomas, experienced doctors can almost always make a clear diagnosis, and general surgeons can also achieve an accurate diagnosis rate of 70%-80%.

Before treating lipoma, surface tumors generally do not require puncture examination. Tumors that are relatively deep under the skin may not be palpable by hand, so B-ultrasound can be used to determine their location, size, texture, and whether they are solid or cystic. If a color ultrasound is used, the blood supply of the tumor can be directly seen. If the blood supply is abundant, it may be malignant. Moles or cysts that grow in superficial positions do not need B-ultrasound. Hemangioma is relatively difficult to treat and generally cannot be easily operated on. There may be abundant blood vessels inside the tumor. Some hemangiomas do not have a clear capsule, and some roots extend into the muscle. Its range must be determined before surgery. It is necessary to do color B-ultrasound or vascular puncture angiography. Color ultrasound or angiography can clearly determine its boundaries, whether the capsule is intact, and the relationship between the surrounding large blood vessels and important tissues such as nerves.
