How often should contact lenses be replaced?

Contact lenses are very popular among people because they are easy to carry, simple to wear, and do not affect the appearance. Anyone who has worn contact lenses knows that contact lenses have a wearing period. If used for a long time, there will be a lot of bacteria, which will harm our eyes. Therefore, friends who wear contact lenses can replace the lenses on time according to the purchase period. This will reduce the harm that contact lenses cause to everyone.

Many people believe that a pair of contact lenses can be worn for two years, but optometric research shows that the lifespan of soft contact lenses is only 2,600 hours. If worn for 10 hours a day, they can only be worn for eight and a half months. In fact, 50% of lenses will have problems if worn for more than 6 months. Therefore, the lifespan of a pair of contact lenses depends on the daily usage time, so the lenses should be replaced once a year to prevent lens problems caused by deposits. In addition, many studies have shown that the longer contact lenses are worn, the higher the chance of lens problems. Even if standard of care is followed, protein deposits cannot be completely removed and frequent replacement or disposable contact lenses are preferred if conditions permit. People who wear contact lenses already know that shorter lenses are healthier, and ophthalmologists also recommend consumers to choose lenses with shorter wear periods.

Wearing contact lenses for a long time will cause the cornea to be in a state of hypoxia for a long time, and the wearers are often difficult to detect the problems caused by aging lenses. Because in addition to the appearance of more red veins in the eyes, sensitive particles caused by deposits and minor corneal injuries all need to be examined to be discovered. Therefore, it is recommended that people who wear contact lenses, in addition to choosing contact lenses with good oxygen permeability, should not wear contact lenses for more than 10 hours a day, and it is best to control it within 8 hours. Not only that, it is best to wear a pair of frame glasses while using contact lenses. Take off your contact lenses and put on frame glasses immediately when you get home from get off work every day. It is also best to set aside one or two days a week to use frame glasses so that the cornea can rest and delay the process of damage.

Replacement cycle classification 1. Conventional TYPE replacement cycle exceeds 3 months but does not exceed 1 year. 2. Frequent replacement type: The replacement cycle is more than 2 weeks but not more than 3 months. 3. Disposable TYPE lenses are disposable medical devices that do not require or simplify lens maintenance, and the replacement cycle does not exceed 2 weeks. Disposable lenses should be worn no more than 14 hours a day, daily, and without the use of any care products.

How to care for contact lenses? Wash your hands before cleaning. Before cleaning and disinfecting contact lenses, be sure to wash your hands with soap and running water, and be careful not to leave long nails to prevent bacteria on your hands from contaminating the lenses and scratching the lenses from nails. Lens soaking: Rinse the cleaned lenses with sterile saline and place them in a lens box to soak and disinfect for more than 4-6 hours. Then rinse them with sterile saline to remove residual liquid before wearing. If not worn, the lenses should be kept immersed in preservation solution. It is recommended that you disinfect the box and clip with hot water before wearing each time, but it is not necessary for contact lenses. After disinfecting the box and clip, use care solution to clean the contact lenses. Cleaning it once or twice will be enough. Do not reuse cleaning fluids. Neither cleaning fluids nor disinfectants should be reused, and liquids that have exceeded their shelf life should be discarded.
