What to do if pregnancy is complicated by Chlamydia trachomatis infection

1. General treatment. Pregnant women should pay attention to personal hygiene, especially in their sexual life. Start chlamydia testing early in pregnancy. At the same time, in order to prevent birth canal infection, a chlamydia antibody test should be performed before delivery (about 36 weeks of gestation). If the test result is positive, the pregnant woman needs to undergo an antigen test. Antigen-positive pregnant women should receive drug treatment 2 weeks before delivery.

2. Drug treatment. The drug not only works on pregnant women infected with chlamydia, but can also prevent newborn infections. Commonly used drugs include erythromycin, azithromycin, clindamycin, etc. Pregnant women should take medications safely under the guidance of a professional doctor.

3. Pregnancy management. If trachoma infection occurs in early pregnancy and the pregnant woman is worried that it may be transmitted to the fetus, she can terminate the pregnancy according to her personal wishes. If chlamydia infection is discovered in the middle or late stages of pregnancy, the pregnancy can be continued on the basis of treatment. Before delivery, another chlamydia test can be done to guide the management of the newborn during delivery.
