Treatment of Vitiligo with Traditional Chinese Medicine

Treatment of Vitiligo with Traditional Chinese Medicine

Vitiligo is a very serious skin disease. The cause is not very clear. After the disease occurs, the function of skin melanocytes will gradually disappear. The skin color of vitiligo patients will gradually turn white like peeling, which looks scary. Although there are many methods to treat vitiligo, the effects are not obvious. Traditional Chinese medicine has become the choice of many people to treat vitiligo.

1. Chinese medicine conditioning and kidney tonification method

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the kidneys store essence, which can be transformed into blood. If the kidney essence is insufficient and cannot be transformed into blood, the skin will be malnourished and white spots will appear on the skin. This type of white spots is pure white, does not heal for a long time, and the hair in the white spots turns white. For this type of vitiligo, the kidney-tonifying method can be used for treatment, using medicinal herbs such as Psoralea corylifolia, Fructus Ligustri Lucidi, Eclipta prostrata, etc.

2. Methods for removing vitiligo and strengthening the spleen

Through long-term clinical observation, it was found that some vitiligo is related to weak spleen and stomach. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the spleen and stomach digest food and are important organs for generating Qi and blood. If the spleen and stomach are weak, Qi and blood will have no source of production, and the skin will turn white when it loses nutrition from Qi and blood. This type of vitiligo is treated with the method of strengthening the spleen, which often achieves better results by strengthening the spleen, replenishing qi and blood.

3. TCM liver-soothing method

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that human emotions are controlled by the "liver". Stagnation of liver qi will affect the circulation of qi and blood, leading to disharmony of qi and blood and the appearance of white spots on the skin. This type of vitiligo is often triggered by emotional stimulation, and the white spots often occur on the chest, flanks, sides of limbs and other parts of the body. Treatment should adopt the method of soothing the liver to relieve liver depression.

4. Traditional Chinese Medicine Method for Expelling Wind

The occurrence and development of vitiligo are mostly unpredictable and without warning, which is similar to the "wind" in nature. Therefore, Chinese medicine believes that the onset of vitiligo is related to "wind evil" through analogy, and often uses "wind-removing" drugs in treatment, such as Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Saposhnikovia divaricata, etc. Modern pharmacological research has proved that this type of drug contains furanobiscoumarins, which are effective in treating vitiligo.

5. Blood Activating and Stasis Removing Method

Meridians carry qi and blood, which can nourish the skin. If blood stagnates in the meridians and the circulation of qi and blood is blocked, the local skin will lose the nourishment of qi and blood and white spots will occur. These white spots are always distributed in the areas innervated by peripheral nerves. It is advisable to adopt blood circulation treatment method.
