Symptoms of vulvar neurodermatitis

Many people don’t know much about vulvar neurodermatitis. It is a symptom of vulvar itching caused by nervous system reasons, which can cause lichenification of the vulvar skin. It is a chronic vulvar skin disease with many causes. It often causes some lesions in the patient’s vulva, which can easily lead to insomnia, emotional anxiety and other obvious symptoms.

Symptoms of vulvar neurodermatitis

Vulvar neurodermatitis commonly occurs on the labia majora and perineum, and can also be seen on the inner side of the thigh. In the early stage of localized neurodermatitis, it is characterized by intermittent local itching, which gradually worsens and becomes more itchy when exposed to heat. Due to scratching, the skin quickly becomes lichenified, with an appearance of mostly millet to sorghum grains, light red, yellowish brown, or consistent with the skin, round or polygonal, hard, shiny, flat papules, densely packed in patches, with a large amount of scales on the surface, and may have scratches, blood scabs and pigmentation. The boundaries of the lesions are unclear. If the disease lasts for a long time, the skin will become thicker, rougher and lichenified due to long-term scratching and stimulation. The condition of hypopigmentation may be severe or mild and may recur repeatedly. The range of the disease is wide, and it can spread to all parts of the body, especially the elbows, armpits, limbs, face and trunk.

Patients often suffer from insomnia and menopausal symptoms. The condition will worsen or relapse when they are emotionally stressed, overworked, anxious, or when their living and working environment changes suddenly. In addition, gastrointestinal dysfunction, endocrine disorders, irritation from chemical fiber underwear, and eating irritating foods can all induce or aggravate the disease.

Neurodermatitis can occur in the neck, limbs, etc. except the vulva, and the lesions are the same. If it occurs in the vulva, the lesions may extend to the outer side of the labia majora, mons pubis and around the anus, and patients often feel itching in the pubic hair. The lesions are mostly grayish white, with hyperplasia and hypertrophy of the epidermis. Over time, they become lichenoid and cause severe itching, with tiny scales sometimes visible on the surface. It often occurs bilaterally asymmetrically.

Treatment options for vulvar neurodermatosis

There are many treatment methods for this disease in China, which can be appropriately selected according to the condition and the extent of skin involvement. Avoid using scratching, friction, hot water and other methods to relieve itching, avoid drinking alcohol, strong tea and spicy food, and those with gastrointestinal dysfunction should correct them. Infectious lesions should be properly treated.

Patients with symptoms of neurasthenia, gastrointestinal dysfunction, endocrine disorders, infected lesions and severe itching can be treated with sedatives and antihistamines.

Oral antihistamines were combined with the use of oryzanol and B vitamins. For treatment with traditional Chinese medicine, especially Qinjiu Pills, Runfu Pills, Danzhi Xiaoyao Pills, etc.

Commonly used local medications include % black bean distillate oil ointment, %~% sulfur coal tar ointment. The effect will be enhanced if a hot hair dryer is used when applying this type of ointment. Corticosteroid ointments, creams, dimethyl sulfoxide preparations or film-coatings all have obvious therapeutic effects when applied externally. The effect of corticosteroid preparations will be more significant if they can be sealed with a specialist. Patches containing various anti-inflammatory and antipruritic ingredients, such as Fujining Piyanling, can also be selected according to the condition of the disease.

Physical therapy, isotope phosphorus or strontium application, boundary line, shallow X-ray, ultraviolet light, helium-neon laser irradiation, liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, magnetic therapy, wax therapy, and mineral spring Tianjin treatment can all achieve good therapeutic intervention effects, but it is also difficult to prevent recurrence.
