What causes dry and flaky mouth corners?

In spring, it is easy to find that some people like to apply lipstick in order to increase the moisture of the lips. If they don’t apply it, the corners of the mouth will become dry and peeling. The drier the lips are, the more they want to purse their lips with their tongue. The more they purse their lips, the drier they become, causing the corners of the mouth to continue to dry and peel. Many people need to rely on lipstick to moisturize their lips all year round. So, what is the reason for dry and peeling corners of the mouth?

Patients with cheilitis not only have symptoms such as erosion, redness and swelling, but cheilitis may also have another manifestation of dry, chapped and desquamated lips. Therefore, dry, chapped and desquamated lips are also a disease, which is the main characteristic of dry and desquamative cheilitis. Some people may also experience dry and flaky lips in dry, hot seasons or environments. As long as they apply appropriate protective agents and keep their lips moisturized, their lips will return to normal and will not develop further. This situation cannot be considered a disease.

The cause of dry, desquamative cheilitis is unknown. It may be related to acute inflammation, or it may be related to sun exposure, tobacco, alcohol, and cosmetic stimulation; Candida albicans infection can cause fungal cheilitis. The main symptoms are dryness, pain, desquamation, longitudinal grooves and fissures on the red part of the lips. Deep fissures may extend into the skin and may bleed and form blood scabs. The fissures are difficult to heal over time. Grayish white flakes can cover the entire lip. The main lesions of fungal cheilitis are white pseudomembranes or patches, which are difficult to remove. There may be redness, swelling, ulcers, and erosions on the lips. PAS staining revealed hyphae. Patients often lick their lips due to dryness and pain, and sometimes rub them due to mild itching.

If you have dry lips, you can only choose moisturizing lipsticks, otherwise even the most beautiful color will be overshadowed by your dry skin.
