Symptoms of constipation in newborns

The physical condition of a newborn baby is special because its body is not fully developed. Their urination and defecation are not very normal either, because some babies are breastfed and some are formula-fed, but the children are in a period of growth, so sometimes they may defecate only once every two or three days. This is what we often call holding the belly, which means that the newborn is in a state of continuous improvement and development. What are the symptoms of diarrhea in newborns?

Symptoms of baby constipation

Around the time of the baby's full month, there will be a few days without a bowel movement. Some mothers will treat this as constipation and treat the baby, but in fact, this may be the baby holding back bowel movements.

1. There is no bowel movement for several consecutive days before and after the full moon.

2. When babies are between one month and two months old, they often go two to four days, or even half a month, without defecating.

3. Usually, this phenomenon only occurs in the 30 days or so when the baby is 1-2 months old.

4. During the period of constipation, the baby's stool is still of normal color and soft without any dryness or hardness.

5. When the child has constipation, there is nothing abnormal in his bowel movements and he does not show any signs of discomfort.

Note: Among them, whether the child's stool is yellow in color and has no lumps is the most important difference between constipation and diarrhea. Parents should be careful to distinguish between the two and not give their babies drugs to treat constipation at will.

At what age does a baby begin to have constipation?

After a baby is one month old, his digestive ability will be significantly improved, and he will be able to absorb and digest breast milk or formula more fully, resulting in less bowel movements. Therefore, he usually starts to hold his bowels in his stomach only after he is one month old. Generally speaking, babies who are breastfed are more likely to have constipation.

However, each child has a different physique, and the time when this phenomenon begins may vary slightly, some may appear a few days earlier, and some may appear a few days later. Generally speaking, the phenomenon of constipation usually occurs around the time when the baby is one month old.

When the baby is approaching one month, the mother needs to observe the baby's condition. If the baby shows symptoms of constipation, don't worry. The baby will not feel unwell at this time, and parents do not need to give the baby constipation medicine.
