Can I take medicine with cold water?

Many people are accustomed to drinking some ice water when taking medicine, and some will directly use mineral water to wash the medicine, but in fact, the effect of washing the medicine with ice water is not very good, and the solubility of the medicine after entering the abdomen is not very strong. Therefore, you can use warm water when taking the medicine, which can directly moisturize the throat and allow the medicine to reach the lesion directly.

It is not good to take medicine with warm water

Warm water can help medicines pass smoothly through the throat and esophagus to reach the stomach, so that dry tablets and irritating medicines will not stay in the esophagus, thereby protecting the esophageal mucosa and playing a lubricating role. Boiled water contains few impurities and will not undergo any chemical changes with drugs. Some people drink too little water when taking pills, causing some irritating drugs to stay in the esophagus for too long and cause esophageal inflammation; some people are more convenient and swallow the pills dry without even water, which is more harmful. Drugs that often cause esophageal damage include tetracycline, doxycycline, erythromycin, prednisone, aspirin, indomethacin, and phenylbutazone.

Some medicines require drinking plenty of boiled water after taking them. For example, the metabolites of sulfonamides in the body can easily crystallize in the urinary tract, blocking and damaging the ureters and urethra. Therefore, you should drink plenty of water to prevent the formation of urethral stones. Antipyretic and analgesic drugs mainly lower body temperature by dilating blood vessels and inducing sweating. It is also advisable to drink plenty of water when taking them to avoid collapse caused by excessive water loss due to sweating.

Warm water can dissolve and dilute pills and medicines, which can reduce the irritation of the drugs to the digestive tract and facilitate the absorption of the drugs. Sufficient water can also dilute toxins in the body and help the recovery of diseases.
