Can I still feed my baby after weaning?

Weaning is a difficult process for both mothers and children. However, there are also mothers who want to breastfeed their children again after successfully weaning, and at this time they need to supplement their milk. However, it is more difficult to increase milk production after weaning than during the breastfeeding period. It requires the mother to persist. At the same time, mothers are also required to do the following to successfully increase milk production!

1. Ensure your own nutrition

Mom has to make sure she eats and drinks enough.

You can try some foods that have a lactation-promoting effect, such as pig's trotters stewed with peanuts, fish soup, etc.

2. Keep in close contact with your baby

Stay close to your baby, give him plenty of skin contact, and take care of him yourself as much as possible. Building up a relationship will help the re-secretion of milk.

3. The most important thing is to let the baby suck more

At least ten times a day, more often if your baby needs it; every two hours.

Try breastfeeding as long as your baby seems interested

Prolong the time your baby stays at each breast

Keep your baby with you all night and breastfeed as much as possible

4. Let your baby accept the nipple again

If the baby refuses to suck the breast, the mother can try to extract the milk with a breast pump first, then suck an appropriate amount of milk into an empty syringe, and slowly inject the milk into the baby's mouth from the corners of the mouth, and continue repeatedly until the baby is full.

Or you can let the expressed breast milk drip from the breast and nipple, hold the baby close to the breast so that he can lick the dripping milk, then slowly put the nipple into his mouth and help him hold the breast.

It may take three or four days before your baby is able to suck actively and vigorously again.

Also note that each time you feed your baby should last about thirty minutes, and the sucking time on both breasts should be roughly the same. This will help the baby get familiar with the feeling of sucking the breast.

5. The most important thing is to make sure your baby is well fed. A gradual transition is the best way.

Initially, continue to give your baby the same amount of formula as before.

As you start to feel your breast milk coming in, gradually reduce the amount of formula you give yourself by about 30 to 60 ml per day.

At the same time, pay more attention to measuring your baby's weight and urine volume to make sure your baby is full enough.

If he's not eating enough, don't reduce the formula yet. If necessary, increase the amount of formula for a day or two.

It is best for your baby to follow the first 4 steps to make a gradual transition while making sure your baby is well fed.

When we are born, God has given us the ability to feed our babies with breast milk. Mothers must not doubt themselves on this point.
