Wisdom teeth are also called wisdom teeth. Once a person grows wisdom teeth, it means that he is approaching physical and mental maturity. The situation of wisdom teeth is very complicated. Some people do not have any symptoms of wisdom teeth, but some people will have severe toothache after growing wisdom teeth. Tooth extraction is the most direct solution, but the adjacent teeth will hurt after wisdom teeth are extracted. This phenomenon is called dry socket. We can understand this dental disease and see how to solve it. Dry socket, also known as alveolar osteitis, mainly occurs after the removal of impacted wisdom teeth in the mandible, due to improper care and increased oral bacteria, causing bone infection. Symptoms: 3 to 4 days after tooth extraction, there is persistent severe pain at the wound site, as well as pain in the ear and temporal area. Painkillers are ineffective. The blood clot in the alveolar socket is dark gray and gradually falls off, exposing the alveolar bone. The gums around the wound become red, swollen and painful, local lymph nodes become enlarged and painful when pressed, the mouth cannot be opened and closed normally, and other systemic discomfort symptoms may also occur. How does dry socket develop? 1. Incomplete disinfection before tooth extraction If the disinfection work is not thorough enough before tooth extraction, the extraction socket may be infected by bacteria in the oral cavity, causing the bone wall in the socket to suffer from osteitis or osteomyelitis. 2. Improper postoperative cleanup After tooth extraction, if the residual granulation tissue of the inflamed root apex tissue is not thoroughly cleaned, the postoperative infection rate will increase and lead to the occurrence of dry socket. 3. Related to the extraction site The chance of dry socket after tooth extraction in the mandibular posterior area is higher than that of the teeth in the extraction position. Because the vision in this area is not very good, in order to expand the field of vision for tooth extraction, the wound is often inadvertently enlarged, causing the wound to be exposed for too long, reducing its ability to resist infection and making it easy to get infected. 4. Improper postoperative care After tooth extraction, the patient neglects to protect the extraction wound, destroying the blood clot that has already formed in the wound, allowing bacteria in the oral cavity to take the opportunity to enter the alveolar socket and cause dry socket. 5. Smoking after tooth extraction Some patients are addicted to smoking and cannot control themselves and smoke immediately after tooth extraction. This not only hinders wound healing but also easily causes dry socket. |
