Can I get pregnant with an IUD?

I believe that most couples would think that the contraceptive ring is a foolproof method of contraception, which is more effective than birth control pills and condoms. In fact, there is still a chance of conception with the ring, which should be around 10% normally. There are also many patients who may become pregnant while wearing the ring, and even forget about the issue of the ring until giving birth.

The chance of pregnancy with an IUD

Generally speaking, the probability of getting pregnant with an IUD is 10%-15%. The main reason for pregnancy with an IUD is that the contraceptive ring is inappropriate or shifted in the uterine cavity, or it falls off or is dislocated, resulting in pregnancy despite the IUD being inserted. Although the IUD can play a contraceptive role to a large extent and the contraceptive success rate of the intrauterine device is about 85%-90%, contraceptive failure may also occur.

Why does the IUD fall off? This is because many women have relatively sensitive physical constitutions. When an IUD is placed in their body, it creates a foreign body stimulation to the uterus, which involuntarily increases uterine contractions. When this rejection reaches a certain level, it may cause the intrauterine device to move downward and fall off. If you have sex during ovulation, you may become pregnant with the device.

In addition to the rejection effect of the IUD on the uterus causing the IUD to fall off or move downward, it may also be related to the length of time the IUD is placed, the size of the IUD, the placement technique, the intensity of women's daily labor, walking posture, etc. In order to ensure that there is no abnormality in the position of the IUD, it is recommended that female friends go to the hospital for a check-up every year after the intrauterine contraceptive device is placed. If the IUD is found to be deformed or moved down, it should be handled promptly. If you find that your period does not arrive on time and you have symptoms of nausea and vomiting, you may be pregnant and should take it seriously.

Symptoms of pregnancy with an IUD

Generally, wearing an IUD can achieve contraception, but in a few cases, pregnancy can occur while wearing the IUD. The symptoms of pregnancy with an IUD are the same as those of normal pregnancy, including amenorrhea, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, drowsiness, frequent urination, breast enlargement, etc. However, be careful of symptoms such as abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding, which may be an ectopic pregnancy. There are two types of pregnancy with an IUD, including ectopic pregnancy and intrauterine pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancy is mainly caused by fallopian tube inflammation, fallopian tube surgery, fallopian tube dysplasia, etc., while intrauterine pregnancy is a normal pregnancy. If you get pregnant with an IUD, it may be caused by the displacement of the contraceptive device. Symptoms of pregnancy with an IUD are:

1. Positive urine pregnancy test: If a woman with an IUD goes to the hospital for a urine pregnancy test and the test result is positive, she is pregnant with the IUD.

2. Amenorrhea: If your menstruation has always been normal, but it has not come for more than 2 weeks after the due date, you may be pregnant. Generally speaking, when menstruation is delayed by 2 weeks, doctors can generally detect signs of pregnancy. If a month has passed without your period, there is a high chance that you are pregnant.

3. Nausea and vomiting: If conception occurs, appetite will also change. If a woman feels a poor appetite, does not want to eat, has symptoms of nausea and vomiting, and wants to eat sour things when her menstruation is delayed for 1-2 weeks, she may be pregnant. Generally, the symptoms will gradually disappear after half a month to a month.
