Wrist nerve damage

Wrist nerve damage

Wrist nerve injury occurs during the process of overwork. If you are not careful, because you use too much force or lift heavy objects, the nerves in the wrist will be suddenly damaged, which will affect the peripheral blood circulation and even the normal nerve function. It can be slowly adjusted with some related medicines, and more serious cases can be combined with massage therapy.

Wrist nerve damage

Once the superficial branch of the radial nerve is accidentally injured, symptoms similar to those shown by the patient at the beginning of this article will occur: after the needle is inserted, the skin of the thumb, index finger and base of the thumb will feel tingling and numbness. This pain can manifest as burning pain, numbness or needle-like pain. A small number of patients complain of recurrent pain and swelling in the wrist. Most patients experience symptom relief within a week, but a few may experience discomfort for about a month.

How to avoid this from happening?

1. Avoid collecting blood samples and performing infusion punctures on the radial cephalic vein of the wrist as much as possible.

2. Under special circumstances, if the patient complains of severe pain or numbness during puncture at this site, the puncture should be stopped immediately, and other sites should be selected, and attention should be paid to observe changes in the patient's sensations at this site.

What should you do if the superficial branch of the radial nerve is injured?

1. Explain to the patient that pain is related to nerve distribution and that treatment will relieve the patient’s symptoms, eliminating the patient’s concerns and tension.

2. Injury of the superficial branch of the radial nerve is generally treated conservatively, with local hot and wet compresses or physical therapy to enhance peripheral blood circulation and promote recovery of nerve function.

3. You can use some neurotrophic drugs such as methylcobalamin or vitamin B1 as prescribed by your doctor.
