What are the specific treatments for hydronephrosis?

Currently, more and more people are suffering from hydronephrosis. When patients discover hydronephrosis, they should be treated in time. So as not to affect the optimal treatment time. Diet for hydronephrosis is also very important. Eat more alkaline foods, such as spinach, onions, eggs, fish and meat. Hydronephrosis is divided into unilateral hydronephrosis and bilateral hydronephrosis. Hydronephrosis is caused by urinary tract obstruction, so don't take it lightly.

Patients with hydronephrosis should receive conservative treatment to avoid the occurrence of other diseases such as renal failure. And the sooner the treatment, the better, and don't have too much psychological burden. Mild cases only require simple injections and medication. For severe cases, seek treatment according to the doctor's instructions.

The main symptoms of hydronephrosis are: 1. Symptoms of the primary disease, such as pain due to stones, hematuria due to tumors, and difficulty urinating due to urethral stenosis; 2. Swelling and pain in the waist on the side of the hydronephrosis; 3. Concurrent infection with chills, fever, and pyuria; 4. Cystic mass in the waist on the affected side; 5. In severe cases, bilateral obstruction may occur, leading to chronic renal failure and uremia.

The treatment required varies depending on the situation.

① Age: Infants and young children should be treated as early as possible, young and middle-aged people can be observed appropriately, and surgery should be performed in time if there is progression. People aged 50 to 60 years and above should consider surgical treatment early to preserve healthy renal function.

②Estimate of renal function and obstruction: a. At least 1/5 of normal renal tissue must be retained to maintain the minimum life function. If not necessary, try not to perform renal drainage to prevent infection. b. For patients with asymptomatic and non-infected hydronephrosis, follow-up observation with ultrasound, CT and intravenous pyelography can be performed every 6 to 12 months. If there is no progression, surgery can be temporarily postponed. c. Obstruction at the ureteropelvic junction may cause stones, so while removing the stones, it is necessary to investigate whether there is a cause of stone formation. If stenosis is present, it should be corrected simultaneously.

③Estimates on intrarenal and extrarenal renal pelvis surgery: Intrarenal renal pelvis is more difficult to handle.

If there is hydronephrosis on one kidney with better function, but plastic surgery can still be performed to restore kidney function, surgery should be considered first. If the contralateral kidney is damaged and has no function, the decision to remove it immediately can only be made after the kidney on the operated side has recovered and its condition has stabilized.

People with hydronephrosis should go to the hospital for relevant examinations. Different patients will experience different symptoms. Your doctor will give you a specific treatment plan based on your symptoms. Patients with mild hydronephrosis do not have any serious symptoms, except difficulty in urination and pain from stones. At this time, you should go to the hospital for a physical examination in time.
