Complex iodine disinfectant

Complex iodine disinfectant

Complex iodine disinfectant is a very common disinfectant product, originated from Western countries, and is also very popular in China. It can relieve infections, bacterial inflammation and other diseases, and can also be added to many medicinal materials. However, be careful not to use it too much, otherwise it is easy to leave signs of burns and burns on the skin.

New Developments In the 1980s, Western developed countries vigorously promoted the use of PVP-I (polyvinyl pyrrolidone iodine, also known as povidone iodine). PVP-I is the only iodine tincture approved by the US FDA and widely used in developed countries. PVP-I is also the only iodine tincture listed as a national basic disinfectant by the Ministry of Health of China. Since the advent of PVP-I, scientists from various countries have proved that PVP-I is the safest through research on chemical preparation, dosage form, structural analysis, pharmacology, toxicology, drug metabolism, bactericidal mechanism and its kinetics. It is recognized as the only disinfectant that can be widely used clinically for human skin and mucous membranes.

The common feelings of medical staff about common iodine tincture in clinical use are: it is yellowish, sticky, difficult to stick with adhesive tape, has a lot of foam, and some are mixed with alcohol, which is quite irritating. Generally, iodine tincture tends to produce precipitation. The surfactants used in this type of product include: polyethylene glycol, nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether, polyol ether, polyvinyl alcohol, alkyl sulfonates, quaternary ammonium salts, etc. These surfactants act as carriers and solubilizers in iodine tinctures. A considerable portion of the "iodine form" in this type of iodine tincture does not have bactericidal activity and is wasted. It also leaves yellow stains on the skin and even burns the skin.

Advantages: PVP (polyvinyl pyrrolidone) is a high molecular polymer that is physiologically similar to human plasma protein and is the best non-ionic surfactant. It is stable in nature, non-toxic, odorless and tasteless, and has excellent film-forming, bonding, detoxification and sustained-release effects. The hydrogen bonds of PVP can be tightly complexed with iodine molecules. This intermolecular complexation effectively reduces the corrosiveness and irritation of iodine, making the product safer.
