Macular eye drops

Macular eye drops

Maculoplasma is a fundus disease that often affects the vision health of the elderly. Many elderly people are even troubled by macular plaques all year round. The larger the macular plaque becomes, the greater the danger will be, and it may even lead to the risk of blindness. Therefore, when macular plaques appear, they can be treated with medication, but which specific medication to use depends on how the condition changes.

What causes macular degeneration in the eye?

Macular degeneration is a common disease affecting the macula in the elderly. The exact cause is still unknown, and it may be related to genetics, vascular sclerosis, oxidative damage, chronic light damage, inflammation, metabolic nutrition, etc. According to reports, the factors that cause macular degeneration include the following:

1. Age: The older you are, the greater the risk of developing macular degeneration;

2. Gender: Women are slightly more likely to have wet macular degeneration than men;

3. Family history: Some families are susceptible to the disease, although the specific gene for the disease has not yet been found;

4. People with hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, cardiovascular disease, obesity, etc. are prone to macular degeneration;

5. Smoking, drinking, and nutritional deficiencies (such as carotene) can also cause macular degeneration;

6. Exposure to blue light and sunlight;

7. Environmental factors.

Macular disease can be caused by genetic lesions, aging changes, inflammatory lesions, and may also be affected by other fundus lesions. Since a variety of factors can lead to macular degeneration, care should be taken to avoid factors that cause damage to the macular area. Once vision changes or vision becomes distorted, you should go to a professional ophthalmology hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time to identify the cause and treatment to protect your visual function.

How to treat: If drug treatment is ineffective, laser photocoagulation is currently an effective method for treating choroidal neovascularization. In the active stage, laser treatment can be performed if the lesion is located outside the central 1/4PD of the macula.
