How long can a cataract lens replacement last?

Don't think that cataracts only occur in middle-aged and elderly people. Even many children are troubled by cataracts. There are many types of cataracts. First of all, cataract patients need to undergo cataract lens replacement. The effect of lens replacement depends on the effect after replacement, which can normally last for many years.

Cataract and intraocular lens implantation 1. Background information of patients undergoing cataract surgery A total of 85 patients (100 eyes) were operated on, including 72 males (85 eyes) and 13 females (15 eyes). There were 8 cases aged 2 to 4 years old, 58 cases aged 5 to 10 years old, and 19 cases aged 11 to 14 years old. There were 70 eyes with traumatic cataract, 30 eyes with congenital cataract, 36 eyes with uncooperative preoperative visual examination, 50 eyes with visual acuity less than 0.05, and 14 eyes with visual acuity between 0.05 and 0.21.

2. Surgical method: Give ofloxacin eye drops 2 to 3 days before surgery, 4 times a day. Diclofenac sodium and tropicamide were alternately instilled into the eyes 1 hour before the operation to fully dilate the pupil, and the pupil was kept dilated during the operation. For uncooperative children, surgery was performed under general anesthesia. The surgical method was small incision non-emulsification cataract extraction plus posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation.

Cataract surgery results

1. Except for 36 eyes that were uncooperative during the examination, the visual acuity of the other 64 eyes after cataract surgery was significantly improved compared with that before the operation, especially for traumatic cataracts. The postoperative visual acuity was 0.05-0.3 in 5 eyes (7.8%), 0.4-0.5 in 70.3% eyes (70.3%), and ≥0.6 in 14 eyes (21.9%).

2. Postoperative complications of cataract surgery (1) Fibrin exudation in the anterior chamber occurred in 13 eyes. Corticosteroid eye drops and mydriasis were given early on, and the problem was completely absorbed and disappeared. (2) Six eyes had transient intraocular hypertension, which was treated with timolol eye drops. A few eyes received intravenous infusion of mannitol, and all returned to normal.

Sharing of experience in cataract surgery nursing

1. Preoperative care for cataract surgery: Children who are injured or hospitalized often have fear, are nervous, and are easily irritated. Before the operation, targeted psychological care and guidance should be provided based on the child's age, education level, and psychological adjustment ability to eliminate the child's fear. Children with cataracts, especially traumatic cataracts, have severe uveal reactions after surgery. High-efficiency non-hormonal anti-inflammatory eye drops should be used before surgery to reduce postoperative reactions. It is best to perform surgery on traumatic cataracts after the inflammatory response period. Before the operation, children are taught to adapt to slit lamp examination and frequent eye drops, and can also be simulated to bandage both eyes after the operation to prepare for postoperative examination and treatment.
