Can the knee joint be treated with moxibustion?

Can the knee joint be treated with moxibustion?

Joint pain is a very common rheumatic disease, mainly caused by rheumatic strain, obesity or chronic joint injuries. Many people in life often do heavy work or walk frequently, which may cause joint strain. After the knee joint becomes sick, it can be treated with moxibustion and traditional Chinese medicine methods, but everyone should also pay attention that there are many other treatments for arthritis.

Option 1: Moxa stick treatment

1. Light the moxa stick and let it burn slowly;

2. Hold the moxa stick with the thumb, index and middle fingers of one hand, and place the little finger on the skin for support;

3. Hang the moxa stick above the acupuncture point, and smoke it at a distance of 2-3 cm between the moxa fire and the skin, so that the acupuncture point becomes warm and flushed locally without burning the skin.

4. You can also move the moxa stick around the acupuncture points to expand the moxibustion area. Each acupoint should be moxibustioned for more than 20 minutes, and moxibustion should be performed in sequence, 1-2 times a day.

5. After moxibustion, it is best to massage the affected area or massage along the meridians. Everyone's discomfort is different. You should massage the three yang or three yin meridians of the foot in the legs according to your own discomfort.

Option 2: Moxibustion box treatment

Use a single-eye moxibustion box or a double-eye moxibustion box to start moxibustion at the painful or swollen area, around the knee joint and local tender points and Shenshu points. If there is a feeling of heat or slight heat and it can be transmitted along the meridians and spread to the surroundings, this means that the Qi has arrived and is effective. And observe whether there is a sensation when the Qi reaches the point and whether there is a continuous sensation. Use two moxa sticks to apply moxibustion on both kidney points. The patient can feel the heat spreading around and transmitted to the lower limbs. Some patients can feel it spreading to the knee joints. If the sensation cannot reach the knee joint, you can light another moxa stick and place it at the distal end of the sensation to continue the sensation transmission. The knee joint and Shenshu are the main acupoints for moxibustion. Observe the transmission route and ensure the continuity of transmission.

Option 3: Self-adhesive moxibustion tablets

Stick two or three self-adhesive moxibustion grains directly on the painful or swollen area, light them all at once, and moxibustion each acupoint 2-3 times. The same sensation is present at the Shenshu point. For the moxibustion site, you can choose acupoints according to your own pain site, that is, take pain as the transmission point, or take warmth, sourness, numbness, swelling, coolness, etc. as the acupoints, which are the moxibustion points. Moxibustion does not necessarily require accurate acupoints, but mainly requires sensory transmission, which is what we call the arrival of qi in acupuncture. The same is true for moxibustion. Having these feelings is also the result of the arrival of qi.
