Causes of shortened cervix

Causes of shortened cervix

If the cervical canal is shortened, it may have a certain impact on fertility. This is because if the cervical canal is short, premature birth is prone to occur during pregnancy. It is also prone to miscarriage. Some of the reasons are congenital developmental. Therefore, for such women, it is necessary to do prenatal check-ups in a timely manner, understand some signs of premature birth, etc., to avoid premature birth or miscarriage due to such reasons.

Causes of shortened cervix

1. As for the length of the cervical canal, it is the result of its own development, that is, it is born like this and there is no reason.

2. Expectant mothers with short cervix are more prone to premature birth. A study of 2,900 pregnant women found that those whose cervix shortened within 24 weeks of pregnancy had a higher chance of premature birth than other pregnant women. Ultrasound was used to measure the pregnant woman's cervix and the uterine muscle ring that protruded into the vagina. It was found that the shorter the pregnant woman's cervix, the higher the premature birth rate. Data shows that pregnant women with a cervix of only 13 mm at 24 weeks of pregnancy are 14 times more likely to have a premature birth than those with a cervix of 40 mm or more.

The researchers explained,

A short cervix can indicate a problem with the pregnant woman's birth canal. This condition, combined with abnormal uterine activity, can lead to premature birth. Therefore, experts believe that using ultrasound to measure the length of the cervix can help doctors predict which pregnant women have signs of premature birth and can then provide appropriate medical care. Gynecologists also say that another benefit of using ultrasound to examine pregnant women is that doctors can predict which women are suitable for "cerclage," which uses sutures to fix the position of the cervix to minimize premature birth.

suggestion:

If the cervical canal is too short, it is easy to dilate and cause premature birth, so you should stand less and walk less, etc. Consult the doctor who examined you.
