Efficacy and function of seaweed

Sea lettuce is a traditional Chinese medicinal material, also known as centipede algae. In some places, it is called Dongjialan. Its main therapeutic effect is to clear away heat and detoxify, and it has an anthelmintic effect. It is very effective in treating sore throat. It can also treat ascariasis and has a certain therapeutic effect on enteritis. It has a certain medical and health care function. Sea lettuce can be made into sea lettuce egg soup, sea lettuce juice jelly, etc.

Chemical composition

Centipede algae (dried) contains 63.31% carbohydrates, 19.95% ash, 14.03% crude protein, 0.76% crude fat, 1.95% crude fiber. The algae also contains a variety of trace elements, including 30% vanadium, 32% manganese, 41% copper, and 16% nickel. Aminosulfonic acid, taurine-dextrorotatory-2-hydroxy-3-aminopropanesulfonic acid and 3-aminopropanesulfonic acid were detected in the ligulate algae. It also contains urea amino acids N-carbamoyl-L-citrulline and N-carbamoyl-γ-aminobutyric acid.

Prescription Examples

① For laryngitis, enteritis, take Scolopendra subspinipes 15g, Scutellaria baicalensis 9g, Pulsatilla chinensis 9g, Isatis indigotica 9g, decocted in water.

② Ascariasis centipede algae 30g, decocted in water and taken orally.

Clears away heat and detoxifies; expels parasites. Mainly used to treat laryngitis, ascariasis and enteritis.

How to eat

Seaweed and Egg Soup

Ingredients: 100g seaweed, 2 eggs, appropriate amounts of salt, chopped green onion, and sesame oil.

Preparation method: Wash and tear the seaweed into pieces, crack the eggs into a bowl and beat them into egg liquid. Put the clear soup in a pot on fire and bring it to a boil.

Efficacy: Used for enteritis, sore throat, wind-heat laryngopharynx, weakness and vomiting blood.

Seaweed Juice Jelly

Ingredients: appropriate amounts of seaweed, orange juice and white sugar.

Preparation method: Wash and tear the seaweed into pieces, add orange juice and sugar.

Efficacy: Used for enteritis and laryngitis.

Morphological characteristics

The algae are purple-red, 7 to 25 cm high, slimy, and grow in clusters. The holdfast is disc-shaped. The main branches are flattened or subcircular, 2-5mm wide, with 1-3 pinnate branches, opposite or alternate, and some with forked tips. The capsule is spherical and protrudes from the surface of the alga.

This species is a cosmopolitan warm temperate seaweed. Grown on rocks or bogs in mid-tidal zones. It appears in Liaoning in early June and grows vigorously from September to October. Distributed in Liaoning, Shandong, Jiangsu and the southeast coastal areas.
