Down syndrome screening requires the patient to be fasting and not drink water between 14 and 18 weeks of pregnancy. Only 2 ml of venous blood from pregnant women is needed, and pregnant women can know the results 2-3 weeks after the blood is drawn.

It is indeed better to do the Down syndrome screening on an empty stomach, but you can drink water, there is no problem with that, just don't eat. And it is best to do the test in the morning, and you need to eat after the test. Another thing is that other items may also be checked during the test, and during this process, fasting is beneficial for the test. If there is a problem with Down syndrome screening, then amniocentesis should be considered.

If a mother is doing Down syndrome screening during pregnancy, she cannot eat and needs to have blood drawn on an empty stomach. This is mainly to detect whether the fetus has Down syndrome, and the results of the Down syndrome screening will take about half a month to get.
