White patches on the skin

White patches on the skin

The most likely and most harmful disease when white spots appear on the skin is vitiligo. I believe that everyone is familiar with the disease of vitiligo. You may even have seen patients with vitiligo in your life. The symptoms are quite scary. The white spots of vitiligo are very characteristic. We must have a full understanding of the symptoms of this disease, conduct a comprehensive analysis based on our own situation, and seek medical attention in a timely manner when we are unsure.

Commonly known as white spot disease of the skin , it is called "vitiligo" in traditional Chinese medicine. Human skin vitiligo is a special disease in which the skin's melanocytes are destroyed, resulting in the appearance of irregular white patches on the skin. It may occur anywhere on the body. It usually appears on both sides of the body and appears as milky white patches. Common areas of invasion include the face, lips, hands, arms, legs, and genitals. If vitiligo occurs on the face, it will affect a person's appearance, so it is a really annoying disease when it occurs in a visible place. According to unofficial statistics from Jackie Chan Medical Network, about 1% to 2% of the population suffers from vitiligo, half of whom develop the disease before the age of 20. One in five vitiligo patients can find vitiligo in their relatives, so vitiligo may be a genetic disease and may occur in every race.

Causes of skin vitiligo The color of the skin is physiologically determined by a pigment called melanin in the skin, which is produced by special cells called melanocytes. This vitiligo may be a phenomenon of melanocyte degeneration and death. The exact cause is unknown, but there are four main possibilities: (1) The peripheral nerves of the body's nervous system are abnormal, releasing toxic substances that destroy melanocytes. (2) There is something wrong with the patient’s immune system, which produces antibodies against his own melanocytes, thus destroying his own melanocytes. (III) Self-destruction theory: Melanocytes produce toxic substances during the process of pigment production, leading to self-destruction. (iv) Congenital genetic defects make melanocytes vulnerable to damage. (V) Other unknown factors.

Typical vitiligo with severe consequences will have milky white circular patches to show symptoms, and the course of the disease and the degree of deterioration vary from person to person. Generally speaking, vitiligo will be more obvious in people with darker skin, while people with fair skin will often notice white spots in the summer because of the obvious contrast of tanning. Patients with severe vitiligo may develop white spots all over their body, but it is always impossible to predict how severe the white spots of an individual patient will become in the future, and doctors cannot predict it either. People with vitiligo often lose their pigment very quickly, but it is also possible for the condition to stop depigmenting suddenly. This process of discoloration stopping on its own and then starting to discolor again may occur repeatedly. Once formed, it is extremely rare for white spot lesions to restore their pigmentation on their own.
